Hi. Roger, I haven't started on the barge yet, I need to finish the tug first, I'm back home now and I want to finish the wheelhouse and funnel before the weekend, all the other bits a pieces can then be added as and when,I will then start on the barge.

I had a problem with the electrics last week, the power started to drop out, various suggestions were put forward as to what the problem might be, but after a thorough investigation which involved eliminating all of the electronics in turn and changing the plug between the battery and ESC, I found a small duck feather had wrapped itself around the prop shaft and was overloading the ESC, at least I hope that was the problem, I will find out on Thursday when I go boating again.

      Regards.

      Eddie.

Hi Eddie, that must have been frustrating, must have driven you quackers sad.

I've been waiting for certain bits for the tug, most is here now so I'll work them both. Now I have the Perkasa I have something to run, still work to do on it though, an oerlikon gun kit for the stern and fettle the superstructure to fit the deck better, just a bit nervous that it'll come off at full bore.

        Regards

        Roger

Still some to do to him yet, a bit of filling out and a bit of paint and then he's on station for ever!!!

Trying to decide on a sailing boat to get some practice in but just going round in circles at the moment. sad

          How's yours coming along Eddie?

          Started that tub yet Ray?

            Hi Roger,

Victoria's are popular for a bit of fun, I also rate my little Micro Magic, handy size to keep in the car, we are Barge racing this weekend at Mote Park Maidstone 😀

Holiday coming up so tidying the workshop !

I hope your going to glaze you captains wheelhouse ?

            Regards Ray

"I hope your going to glaze you captains wheelhouse ?" Of course Ray, how could you even think that I would leave my leader open to the elements sir? Hah the very thought!!!

I've looked at both of those, and it may well be that I get a micro as the club I've just joined, Gloucester & District, race those on a weekly basis. and I like the size of the Victorias. I don't really want to get into racing just sail for fun, I've looked on Ebay and there's plenty on there and at reasonable prices but soooo far away though, very frustrating. sad

              Regards

                Hi Roger,

Racing gives you a reason to be out there and is good fun, you will need some practice for when you finish Veronica.

Although I like building motor boats/ships/tugs they are fairly boring to run compared to sailing 😀

                Regards Ray

Old CD cases make good window material 😉

Thanks for the tip on CD cases, got a few of them kicking around, task will be to find some without scratchs. smiley

Hi. Roger, I have just fitted the wheelhouse and funnel to Master Elliott, it's now ready for our club Mayhem weekend looking like a tug, not looking bald.

I have now fitted a 25 amp ESC and ran it yesterday for 21/2 hours, I may change the battery from 10.8 volts to 7.4 as I do not use the top speed that the bigger battery gives me, in the 21/2 hours it only used 2 amps of power from the 4 1/2 amps in the battery.

I can now get the materials for the dumb barges, notice the pluralfrown I will be building two.

Good luck with your sailing, as Ray says more fun than power boats and less to go wrong.

                    Regards.

Hi Eddie, good to hear from you smiley, you got a wig for your yug? That's a bit over the top sirlaugh. I've finished planking the wheelhouse now, just need to sand, fill and seal and that'll be another bit ticked off, seems to be going slower now but I'm trying to make a good job of it and not rush.

Interesting battery life we'll see what I get out of mine.

Two barges? bulk transfer of coal to Wales?

Yeah I'm looking forward to getting either the Soling or, if the price is right, the Fiesta as well. Only other purchase might be a Micro Magic but that will be it. The Veronice has to be built.

If this Mayhem is the Wicksteed one say hello to John Vynal, he's the chap that I bought the Perkasa off.

                      Have a great weekend

                            Hi all,

Today has been a good day, sold the Simplex subject to payment, bought the Soling for less than I expected and the Fiesta was chucked in foc, yes today has been a good day indeed. smiley The Fiesta needs a rewire and a bit of tlc but the Soling is good to go. The controller is a Futaba running on 40Meg, I will probably

Must get back to the jobs in hand now, Tug and dumb barge, although I must confess I have started to set up the board for the Veronica build, only because I now have less confidence in the dimensions of the hull frames. I have sent Sarik an email.

Anyway time for my beauty sleep (up to 10hrs a day now but still not helping laugh)

                            Regards

I wouldn't worry a about the bulkheads, the revision was made years ago, SARIK won't be any help as they just inherited the design from Traplet (long gone now) good to hear your Simplex sold I was worried I'd have to buy it from you 😀

                              Regards Ray

Hi.Roger, as Ray says don't worry too much about the frames, I had to fill out a couple on my build of Veronica, it is easy to just glue a piece to the edge and then sand it to fair in with the rest of the frames. I will post some pictures.of my mast and sail set up if that will help including all the blocks. I have my grandson with me today and we are of to the boating lake for a couple of hours.

                                Regards.

                                          Hi Roger,

Well your buyer sounds keen, not the sort of thing to fit in your hand luggage 😀

As my now departed uncle grew older, he embarked on larger projects hence the boiler, how they were going to be moved is still a mystery to me !

I may end up building Gauge 1 loco's in about 15 years, you always need a plan being a planner, fair bit of driving for work at the moment, Birmingham yesterday, Spalding Lincs today, tonight knackered !

I honestly thought you were already retired, my apologies sir.

I used to drive professionally worked out about 1.7m miles, not much fun during my last few years on the road, packed it in in the last century. ooh I sound so old but I retired three years ago manipulated into it by my last employers when I said I wanted to go down to three days a week.

Never mind, I can make ends meet… just and I am enjoying my life again, no stress, no worries about meeting targets, no boss pressuring me to do what shouldn't be done. I love my life. laugh

I have done a bit but partly a step back as I wasn't happy with the.way the hull is shaping up. It's something that I need to sort out to my satisfaction first. sad

Hi.Roger, that's a shame that things are not turning out as you hoped, but I think you are doing the right thing in standing back from it until inspiration comes,as it will.

I have finished my version apart for the tyres for fenders and another lifeboat.I will post some photo's later.

I have now started on the first of two dumb barges, just waiting for glue to dry at moment.

I have seen the pictures of your other boats and I think they have real potential.

Hi Eddie, good to hear from you, I was getting worried. I saw John on Wednesday to pick up the Flying Eagle and what I now is the Admirals barge, had a coffee and a chat and then back home.

I have to get order into my life, getting too many projects on the go and none finished. I have kept going on the jpw but not at the rate I need to. I have got two 6v 3.2ah batteries for it and so all the sparks are ready to install but I must get the hull right before fitting.

The barge is waiting for the big hole to be cut, fitted and boxed in and will be in parallel with jpw. The Veronica is now able to come off the jig so frees up space for building.

The Perkasa has new motors to be fitted, just waiting for ESCs to arrive.

The Admirals barge will wait till I decide how I will restore it then the fiesta sailer needs repairs and the Weser needs completing.

But I do have the Soling and Flying Eagle to get wet. smiley

                                                  Regards

Hi. Roger, Wow! 6 boats in as many weeks, you are a glutton for punishment! it took me two years to get to that number.

I have just refitted my Veronica, AKA Susie May, although I had made the sails according to the drawings the sprit was much too low at the peak according to pictures and videos of other barges, this meant I had to make new sails to fit the new shape formed by the re-positioned sprit, I have also changed the servo winch for a servo with an arm, I will post pictures later when it is all finished.

                                                    Regards.

                                                    Eddie.

                                                      Hmmm, just had a recount,

JPW, Dumb Barge, Veronica, Perkasa, Fiesta, Soling, Admirals Barge, Weser, Flying Eagle, that's it in think so that's umm nine in total….. ooops blush. Am planning for a tenth though, possibly a warship of some description.

My excuse is that you guys started earlier than me so i had to play catch-up quickly laugh.

Why the change of servo winch?

                                                      Regards
