      G’day Dave,
The grey filler is some older tamiya putty I had, the newer putty is white tamiya putty!
The lattice mast is going to be all brass tube, I have spent a number of hours looking at photos and drawing up the bugga! hardest part was getting the height right’ish !!
Been making up bits of superstructure from Styrene bits from my vastly deep scrap’s box!!

      Cheers Bruce

Here R some pic’s of progress plus my new TX a Turnigy 9X 8ch 2.4Ghz (only$59.95US !! amazing value and works brilliantly!!)

added stepped section( and some locating pins for securing aft & mid sections)

        and the odd box sections

        and cable trunking

weapons mockup final fitout will look similar 2 this

        Except with port N stbd 30mm GOALKEEPER’s instead of 20mmCWIS !!
And 5″ gun will be an 8″ stealth turret design (why a stealth turret ??because it looked NICER!!)

              G’day Dave,
The SPS-49 Radar is all hand made from brass rod !! A fellow TF72 er up Sydney way used 2 make em but he has dropped off the scope so to speak and no body has heard from him! Fortunately we have recently come across a couple of potential new members (German brothers) who R brilliant retired Marine engineers and they R making up SPS-49’s (2 exacting tolerances!) out of Styrene!! They normally build in 1/50 scale but after sailing with us at Rymil park lake we have turned them 2 the Dark side!! And now They R plotting 2 build a 1/72 scale Bismark!!

              Cheers Bruce

Just built up a new hanger door setup similar 2 the arrangement on an Arliegh Burke class DDG, there will be a flight control station between the doors  and I will hide the on/off switch in a small box just below attached 2 deck rather than Hanger.

working on making davits for fwd ships boat’s at moment. Plus took Lb for a cruise on Tuesday so a club mate had company when he test sailed his Adelaide class FFG, which will be HMAS Sydney when finished, she needs some ballast shifted from bow 2 stern then she will sit better on the water.

                  cheers Bruce

Got sidetracked from building the Davit’s and ended up building the Aft lattice mast instead! I’m glad that’s done !! Ended up making it out of styrene instead of brass it was the simplest way of doing it cheaply!

He he Thx Dave!! I’m currently building 2 more 48’s one for USS California and one for club mate’s USS Scott (Kidd class as seen in some of my pic’s) Just e’nuff sheet from one pack of evergreen siding 2 do 3 radar arrays. Figured I’d get them done while I was on a roll! Thx should go to TF72club Prez. Mike James for the actual dimensions of the Antenna which enabled me 2 draw up the plan and determine lattice work on back. (I love drawing plans up before I build stuff)
The fun part will be getting it to rotate without looking wonky!!n going 2 use some small geared motors 10mmX12mm25mm 39rpm@12v (should be Bout 13rpm on 4v or 9.75 on 3v) these motors R available from http://www.runway13.com $15US

Hi  Bruce taking shape well . It’s amazing how often the addition of the masts transforms the ships profile so dramtically . The tricky bit is the SPG 55s !

It’s looking great, and the radar array is a work of art.

                                  G’day Dave!
The SPG-55’s will be easy mate!! I simply sent off an E-mail 2 Allan Pew asking him if he made them and he replied that he was still trying 2 get some good measurements, I sent him off a drawing a mate had sent me and two weeks or so later he sent me back this pic of the 1st SPG-55 out of the molds with the MK-10 launcher!!
I have 4 of the -55’s on order plus 2 mk-10’s….now just need my Tax return sorted so I can pay for my Order of fittings!!

                                    Cheer’s Bruce

                                    the unbuilt bits!!

back of 1st unit made by Allan, just needs brass hand rails made up

Hi Bruce Very smart  indeed. I thought Allan  might  come up with the SPG 55s  . Also a top draw moulding of the Mk10 . I know he’s been working on    the USS Bainbridge  but I don’t know how much progress he has made .   I keep asking how he is getting along with the IN Mumbai   which is a fine looking DDG  and his model is superb. Best of luck with the Tax returns . press on .

On Sunday it was cold, wet and windy so I stayed inside and made up the radar drive for the SPS-48 out of a small micro servo (different brand 2 one in aft mast and much quieter) and the support column and servo cover. There is also a small 1.8mm white LED at front of platform for one of the running lights.

                                          Cheers Bruce

Paul Blyth brought along his  superb 1:96 scale Long Beach and it sailed a treat. Pictures will be featured in Model Boats in due course but even at 96 it’s a beast of a model.   Thanks for posting up the photo of   Allan’s Mumbai .

Haven’t updated for awhile been busy working on my other boat’s (AHST tug, USS California and making 1/72 scale Heli’s for flight deck’s) and its been very wet lately so not a great deal has got done (LOL). Made up railing for aft radar platform worst bit of railing I have ever done !! I’m going 2 C if I can find some plastic 2 rail for the rest of radar platforms!! And I have made new engine mts and relocated ESC’s and re-fitted wiring and Fusebox.

It might not look it, but there is approx. $20 worth of brass there!! ( If U inc. what end up in the scraps box!!)

                                                FR30 Electronize ESC’s brilliant…..

Have been busy rebuilding upper bridge structure (had it wrong 1st version) new one is much better! Fwd mast is on (but will come off so I can replace the 1.8mm LED some NINNY connected it up wrong and fried it….bright….brighter….POP!! OOOPS!!)have discovered a place the sells micro geared motor’s 6 & 8mm dia’s X 22mm long have ordered 2 will use one in the upper fwd radar of LB and one in upper radar on California.
replaced  radar drive in aft mast with a different geared motor (10mmx12mmx25mm) which is whisper quiet and on 4AA’s spins at approx12rpm was able 2 rebuild upper radar base more accurately, got davit’s done and bridge reassembled just in time for 1st club run of the spring/summer season. Hi Bruce  good to see more  pictures of the Long Beach . Your model looks truly  impressive  on and off the water and your not finished yet.  Your Long Beach next to the 72nd Hood   indicates how big the Long Beach was .
