Hi, everyone, and festive greeting from Llangyfelach!

I'm about to launch a new hobby for myself with model boats, and am looking into different sail/rigging options. I want to construct a replica of a Maurice Griffiths 'Eventide', and to try to get it as scale as possible.

Thanks, have a great festive season – Nadolig Llawen a blwyddyn newydd dda! (Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!).

      Den, Llangyfelach.

          eventide 1.jpgHello Den,

Welcome to the forum, I built a model of Eventide I will put a post on to refresh the thread, I also built Wild Duck a few years back.

George in Norway knows about roller reefing on a Fisher motor sailor, hopefully he will see this and join in ?

          Regards Ray

Merry Christmas everybody! Here in Norway we actually celebrate on the 24th, Christmas Eve. There's a pause today, and then tomorrow we have another go at putting on even more weight.

            Hello Den,

Ray flatteringly writes that I 'know about' roller reefing. Well, by studying the real one on my old photos of the full size Fisher 34 which once I owned, I managed to produce a roller reef system that works and looks right.

You've got plenty to be getting on with before you need a roller foresail however, there are photos on the Fisher build log and some tekst (page 13) which illustrate my plan at the time.

I can of course elaborate on what I did to produce it if you require more info. I'll first have to go down to the marina (cellar store room!) to have a close look at the construction detail to refresh my memory. You may be able to find other ideas and photos on Youtube too. I seem to remember that I only found photos of full size units -no miniatures.

I wanted a roller foresail and other sail reefing ability so that I could run the Fisher on motor only. The main and mizzen get a bit wrinkled when furled though!

            George

Thanks both, that's very helpful. I have two aircraft builds to complete before I build the Eventide, so some time to go yet. I'll keep you posted on progress, but don't hold your breath!

Hi,again – I've been looking online and have decided the ropework is too fussy! so I'll probably go with a weighted Clew, and flick her backside as she goes around – just like the real thing! Happy New Year!

                  Hi Den,

An interesting anecdote not sure you can be gender specific in these PC days !!

As George says you have some way to go before you worry about the rig, although professionally made sails are the way to go.

Completing projects before starting another is an interesting concept, something I could never get the hang of , Happy New year.
