      The Frigate I'm currently creating is thankfully getting some shape to it. Started on lot's of the ancillaries etc. Originally there was no intention to install the Helicopter but since I'm an arse at the best of times it requires the chopper. I intend to have the rotors turning via tiny motors but have came stuck with a drive mech for the tail rotor. Motor/s will be contained within the ship (probably overcomplicating it but hey ho!) Scale is 1/96th as near as dammit.

      Has anyone any suggestions as to a drive mech for tail rotor?

      Since there will be no real speed on them or anything other than negligible resistance I'm using micro diameter wire that I make my snoods for Pike traces with. inside a fine clear tubing through the wheel and landing gear into the choppers body. But it wont bend enough to drive tail rotor.

          Stephen. That's some ask. The space for anything at 1/96 is very limited.

          How about….the main rotors are twisted to create an amount of breeze, and the tail roto ris either twisted similarly or has small tabs on it so the main rotor blows it round??? (Just thinking out loud).

            Try a belt drive taken from the main rotor shaft, at 1/96 a high quality silicone band would do the job and given the nature of its location should be maintenance free.

            You might need to add some guide pulleys to ensure the belt doesn't foul anything (lego technic springs to mind)

            An alternative would be to manufacture a drive shaft made from lego technic which could also be driven from the main rotor shaft.

            If you want to spend lots of money then look at how the RC Helicopter chaps overcome the problem.

              Hi Stephen,

              Why not use one of these as a basis £15 it's infrared and managed 100's of flights so far 😀

              You could build a body over the mechanical frame remove the top rotor and then turn tail rotor sideways job done.

              This one is 56ft long at 1/96th scale

                Thank's everyone for the replies. I think I'll opt for the infrared option as the structure is then done. My attempts to create the chopper so far weren't anywhere near sensible 😂
