      Hi all,

Just found this site so thought I would introduce myself.

The names Gregg and after having a family and generally living life, I now find I have time to live my youth again.

I have always been an aviation enthusiast, and built several R/C model planes over the years. However my flying far exceeded my landing skills, so I always seemed to be repairing (read that bodging) bits and pieces to send up again.

Now I Iive in a small apartment with hardly any room to store the myriad wrecks of planes, so I decided to change genre.

Boats tend to sink, not break up into masses of wreckage so hopefully I won't take up too much space!

As a child, I always wanted to build an E-Boat, after seeing pictures of them in Lion & Tiger comics. They looked so powerful and full of menace (to a Child) compared with the British & American MTB's. My first boat build was back in the 60's, a Kiel Kraft Balsa Terrier MTB

Now I have got the time and slightly more pocket money to fulfill that wish.

I bought the Italeri 1/35 S-100 Schnellboote back in November last year (2011) and have been slowly modifying it to represent a working Boote, warts and all, as I have never really been into factory finished models (no disrespect for those who do like these)

As it is such a comprehensive kit (600+ plus parts) I haven't had any particular build sequence, so that I wouldn't get bored with the many repetative photo-etched parts etc. So if the build looks a little disjointed I apologise

      .Arrived at last.

Gregg. Welome about the good ship expert and bodgit.

You have chosen a fairly popular kit to motorise, and its all looking good so far.

I am sure you have read the millions of threads out there on motorising this kit, as you have posted straight away without asking the usual questions.

          Keep the pictures coming.

20mm Quad Flak VierlingHaving got bored with working on the 'big bits' I moved onto the smaller areas that are seen!

I decided at an early stage I didn't want to represent any particular Boote, however I did want to change the armament to a Quad FlakVierling on the stern mounting. Having only seen one (poor quality) photo of this fitment I have used artistic licence with regard to the fittings etc.

This may not be acceptable to the purists amongst you but I am happy with them!

                  Welcome Gregg

Your model building skills are 1st class and dont worry about finding purists on this site as they don't last long here.

I have also encountered these rivet counting critics on many occasions and I tend to find that whilst they are very good at criticising they are equally useless at building models themselves.

This type of person seems to flock together at model shows probably to show off (or perhaps trying to breed), but when faced with them I just ask them in a clear loud voice to take themselves elsewhere before they get the benefit of my walking sticks on a tender part of their anatomy.

It tends to work very well.

                  Paul

How long will it take Colin to edit my comments (10.50am 26/11/2012)

Not long Paul, not long! angry Behave yourself!

                        Ojays,

Sorry but I had to delete your last post as all the photos had run together and overflowed the side of the page! I'm afraid the rather quirky site software doesn't like it!

The solution is to leave a space between each photo and then they will appear correctly.

                        Sorry about that,

                        Colin

Not a problem. never understood collages anywaylaugh I am not very computer literate so the problem coud be user error!

Thanks for all the encouraging comments guys!

The gist of my erronous post was!

Were all different, and I do appreciate the dedication some put into exhibition/show models plus the satisfaction they get and give.

For myself I am just trying to keep my hands and brain active now I have retired.

The plus side is my grandsons regularly ask questions about my models. This gives me the chance tell them of an era and the people who sacrificed all to allow us the freedom to do what we are free to do now! (here endeth the sermon)

                                Hi Larry,

Vallagio acrylics, using brushes, stipplers and (ladies) make-up sponges and pads.

I have 2 airbrushes from my professsional days, however as we live in a one bedroomed apartment there is insufficient room/ventilation to use themfrown This is no hardship though as I am just going back to my youth, when we didn't have all the modern equipment available to us now.

Anyway cleaning a brush is far easier than stripping and cleaning airbrushes.

Some of this weekends work. Replacing the rivets lost while sanding. Starting to apply base coats to several items and checking the sliding main access hatch works. Hopefully staring on the motor installations this week and checking the balance in water with batteries etc.

Gregg. Fantastic figures, what can I say, and inventive use of poses, not to mention very well executed! This is how to bring a model to life it really is.

Its a shame more people do not put figures on their boats. it is a well known fact (to me) that on this forum, there are just too many chaps making boats, speedboats and so on, but will just not put any figures on them !! crying

You truly have shown the way. fantastic.

Hopefully today as it's nice and sunny outside, I'm going to have a go at the lower hull area and salt weathering (another first)

Having found some pics of the state of a hull below the waterline, thought i'd give it a go. Quite relevant as the damage is salt water related!

Due to the hull size I have to do all the painting outside as (she who must be obeyed) would have a hissey-fit if i attempted indoors!

Nothing to report as the salt weathering didn't come out as I thought it would, (rubbish) it isn't as easy as some of you guys make it look!

I may just go back to my usual method of fine & stipple brushes!

Going to start on painting the figures, another first for me so no idea how it will turn out!

Moving back to the figures for the moment, painting those already modified and moving arms/legs/hands & heads etc to match photo's in some e-boat related books I have.
