I bought an old model hull in a hospice shop. I found this motor in it.

I've no idea what it is, does anyone recognise the make?

It's 70 mm long by 50 mm dia.

There is a worn label that says it is 3 – 12 volts. No maker or model number info.

The fishing boat type hull it was lying in is 33 inches long with a very nice brass 40mm 3 bladed prop. However there is no indication the motor was actually fitted.

Here's the front view. There were parts of an old MacGregor transmitter in the bundle as well so this could be going back to 1980s or earlier?

It looks exactly like an early Marx Monoperm motor but the dimensions you are quoting are not correct as the Monoperm had a diameter of around 30mm and a body length of between 35-45mm depending on whether it was switched.

These motors were popular from the late 1960s through to the 1970s.

Colin is correct as it is indeed a Marx Monoperm but this one is German (I think) LINK

Marx Luder motprs were German, Paul. What I'm not sure about is whether the tagged case design was applied to the early Decaperm and Hectoperm motors as well as the smaller ones.

There was an article in one of the modelling magazines describing these motors not so long ago but I can't find it in Model Boats so maybe it was in Marine Modelling.

Thanks very much for the info on this motor. From the data on the German web site that Paul T linked to, this is a Marx Hectoperm. 52 mm in diameter (I was close) and it's the same weight, 300 gm. Web site entry says it's 50 watts max so I guess it wouldn't pull much over 8 amps at 6 volts and a 15 amp speed controller should be ok.?

I'll test it anyway, motor does look in good condition. I suspect it will be low reving and high torque, which would be ideal for the fishing boat which is 33" long by 11 " beam, with a deep draft.

I can sort of remember Marx motors as a make from long ago, but something like a Hectoperm would have been far too large (and expensive, no doubt!) for my teenage projects. When I got back into the hobby several years ago, everything (radio, batteries, motors etc) had changed!

The hull was in poor condition, but had been well made, all the fittings, superstructure etc was long gone. It also had a leak. I've sanded the tatty paint down, and spent this afternoon in the garden applying glass fibre cloth. Went on better than I expected. Been an interesting exercise, and the hospice shop is a good cause.

I shall see how the motor works….

                    Hi Michael

If you post a picture of the boat we at the forum may help you ID it for you.

The length and width it maybe an Helen or Eileen fishing boat.
