        Hehow,

How do I get a working crane on my boat?  The more information the better!  It would be cool to be able to actually move the crane (up, down. left, right), but I would be satisfied with just being able to reel the line in and let it out.

My real concern is from an electronic perspective.

Some people use a Battery operated screwdriver fixed below deck with the switch/trigger operated by a servo arm pressing on / off.

Hi queequeg A lot depends on the physical size of the boat and the crane. here are two videos of different cranes I’ve made work.

the 1st is on a one metre open fishing boat and I used two worm drive gearboxes and independant esc’s from Action electronics

and the second  is on a modified “seaport tug” 480mm ish long here i used two 9g servo’s much like the Hi Tech HS55’s one is mounted on the back of the crane to raise and lower the boom and the other is mounted through the deck and fixed to the crane base to rotate it

I would like to point out that these video’s are of the trial runs on these cranes and since many cosmetic changes have been made mainly to hide or disguise the oprational bits. both work on 2 proportional channels so you will need at least a 4 channel tx/rx

            Hope this helps Phil
