Can anyone make out, what the Winch Mechanism consists of, in this photo, please?

It must be some sort of Block and Tackle, but can't make out the path of the spare chain

The lift would be about 15 feet or there abouts?

      Bob

Sorry about that,,,,,,,,The picture will appear shortly

Nice addition Bob, but the real photo shows the davit as being a pole up the cabin, with a hinge of some sort on the top and a straight arm on that.

I realise of course the straight arm may have been operated by a line from the mast which brings me to another point…..the mast looks nice…could have lights and pennants for extra more visual effect?? (make it de-mountable for storage)

A modern version of the VGC would use a motorised winch to launch its dinghy.

You will never guess what I am working on now……

A novel idea, Paul, but………Don't think so

What's this new idea you are tinkering with, then?

Give us a clue, as least!

Its a mixture of madness and a crazy idea that will never float and doesn't exist in the real world. But no matter how many times I try to destroy it on paper the sums keep on adding up.

                  Windows 10 has struck again!

After selecting….."Upgrade and Switch off"………..There was no alternative

I woke up next day to total chaos!

All the "Favourites" have been wiped clean!

And the Email is a total shambles!

I've now got to spend good money to put it right!!……….Anybody else with the same problem?

Every so often I have a problem with Win 7 and resolve it using a piece of software called Reimage Link there is a licence fee but it is a very effective piece of kit and I wouldn't be without it.

I've reached the stage now, where I don't want to tinker with the system……It can be put right by a knowledgeable person…..It's just the system that is mixed up

                      Some stuff is working ok

It'll have to be PC World to the rescue, shortly

                        Hi Paul

                        Who`s a clever boy then?

                        Me of course!

                        I`ve sorted out the PC!

I was idly messing about clicking on things in a sort of hypnotic trance, when I came across a feature which said I could select "RECOVERY" and erase the latest Win 10 Upgrades

With great trepidation, heart in mouth, I took the plunge…….

I came back two hours later……..And it was back to it`s normal working self

I`m highly delighted, to say the least

Now I can get back on the boat build with a bit more enthusiasm

The boat looks too small compared with the rest of the model. They seem to be different scales and I would have thought a better location would have been on the aft cabin roof which would have reduced the topweight and a more logical position.

                            Doesn't look right to me!

                              Hi Colin

The Jolly Boat is in the correct position……..See full size craft, a few pages back

It does look a bit small…….It should be a Rubber Dinghy really

I know where there is a better one

                              Back shortly

                                How about this one then?

On the full size craft, the Jolly Boat seems to have been moved from the top of the rear cabin to the top of the forward cabin and the empty space used for sunbathing?

Still doesn't look right to me Bob. I used to have a 24ft sailing yacht and the rubber dinghy was stowed away deflated below deck. When we wanted to use it we hauled it up, inflated it and chucked it over the side manually.

You could expect your boat to stay afloat long enough for you to unpack and inflate your dinghy, when Bobs boats go down they go down fast.

What kind of sail boat did you have? I used to own a 5t Hillyard.

                                              Paul,

These small boats are just tenders to get you ashore if you can't go alongside at a visiting port. They are not intended as lifeboats.

If the main boat sinks you either go down with it at the salute or resort to a lifejacket/liferaft.

I had a little pram fronted dinghy for the trips into shore (The Antelope pub on old Menai Bridge)

                                                    Hi Chaps

Not many changes to be seen now, but since the thread attracts several hundred views per day, a progress report will be appreciated by those interested readers

The deck is card covered with pencil drawn planking and now varnished, the Fablon stripes are also varnished and waterproofed, and the Jolly Boat crane is as good as finished

There is still quite a bit of work left before completion, tidying up, bits and pieces and window glazing etc

The little wreathe is a mark of respect for my twin brother, Geoff Abell, an avid reader of our thread, who passed away, a few days ago….RIP

Bob. I so like the crane, it is nice to be able to get pullies and stuff on it as it is sooooo big.

The rubber dingy MAY be the correct jolly boat type but it would be nice to see a more conventional boat on top?

What about a stern launched jobbie, pair of davits/boat hanging over stern? or is the boat not wide enough for a worthwhile dingy?
