Are the pictures of helpful individuals the promised 'novel feature' or are you fitting a Mississippi style stern wheel. Good news about the pool……….and with a plentiful supply of mushy peas it could also serve as a Jacuzzi.

Filling up Lake Coniston at the moment…………..( I live on Coniston Close, you see )

It taking 30 mins for the water level to rise 50 mm

We might have a floatation test this evening

                No, not yet, Colin

We nearly had it done, last year but it didn't work out for some reason

How much would it have cost us, to fill the pool………Any idea?

                It's 8'-0" x 4'-0". X 1'-0" deep

Bob, you need to get the terminology correct, its a R.A.F.T…………..Rapid assembly flotation tank.

                    Test results

One 7.2v battery driving one 850 motor, with the other motor being back driven, gave a reading on the Watt Meter of

17.5 amps…….With the prop running in fresh air, the amp reading was about 8 amp

With a fresh 7.2 v battery,……..The motor ran at a useful speed for at least 9 mins, before we switched it off, as the motor was quite hot

One 12v battery driving one 850 motor, with the other motor being back driven, gave a reading on the Watt Meter of a whopping 32 amps!

For the test, the battery is driving one motor and the motor drives the prop but the motor is also driving the idle motor too

I can see the merit in conducting a complete test to establish a full set of results but having a back driven motor might produce a higher than necessary amp reading as the back driven motor will produce a lot of drag.

                            Bob,

I think your maths (to calculate the pool) is better than most – 1m3 in our region is £1.635 with £1.331 for the sewerage. On a metered supply there would be standing charges and surface water and highways drainage charges.

                            **LINK**

                            1m3 of water provides –

                            **LINK**

The cost of the water isn't great but remember what happened last summer in the Lake District when the village in Haweswater re-appeared when the water level dropped.

                            **LINK**

The problem in the region isn't as bad as it was in the past, now United Utilities have an east to west link pipe which connects a reservoir north of Rochdale/Bury to a reservoir in St Helens. This pipe allows water from Wales (Merseyside water network) to be brought into Manchester's (Lake District supplied network) and also allows Manchester's water to be fed into Merseyside. The installation uses gravity from Rochdale to St Helens and pumped in the other direction.

                              Tony

                              The pool is 8ft x 4ft x 1ft on the inside…..Which is 32 cu ft

                              A cu metre is very roughly 3ft x 3ft x 3ft…..which is 27 cu ft

So the water used is about………..£1.80……..Not bad

We didn`t go on the meter last year, because we heard of someone had recieved a £3000 bill, because they had a leak on the wrong side of the meter!

                              Nuff said!

We disconnected the idle motor by removing the belt and the amps dropped by only one amp!

At the moment, I`m going for the 7.2volt option with a 40amp ESC driving two motors

With a 10 minute flatout runtime which will probably span out to nearly 20 mins when the other motors share the load, is ok by me

It was interesting to note, that one motor powered the boat quite nicely…….So four motors should be quite exciting!

The Sun was exceedingly bright and reading the Watt Meter was quite difficult, Duckie took a photo of the readings

The waterline with no ballast was nearly correct at the stern, but about 1" low at the front

The model was lovely on the water and was very stable and didn`t want to wobble about

                                Bob

We are of the same mind Bob, our bill is still calculated on the RV.

When I was working on Building Services at one property we looked after, the water board's meter reader read the first digit one number too high giving an astronomic bill, what a job to get them to put it right. Avoid the meter if at all possible. If my memory serves me right, compulsory metering only affects property built after 1990.

Going off the thread a bit, I also hear there are problems with the smart meters for electricity and gas. If a meter is one with an earlier version of software, there are problems should you wish to change suppliers as the software isn't compatible.

Back to watching your pool testing of the model!

Sorry old chap but the waterline on the Lady Joyce transom is lower than designed.

The design depth for this hull is slightly above the green line

It's not bad news at all, Paull……..You exaggerate

There's no ballast in the hull at the moment and depending how it sails round the lake, we may not add any

We checked the hull for stability and wobbleness in the pool and it passed with flying colours

Haven't ordered the ESC's yet…..I was expecting some technical comments first
