      Very witty Mr Milbourn!

As a matter of fact, Paul has won the match, by default……..I cheated!……..You couldn`t get big enough outriggers on such a small boring mill, that I specified

I used to work on these………..Gear Hobbers……..Built in a Temperature controlled workshop

The gear is a double helical gear for silent running, fitted to a Destroyer!

I actually drew a bracket for the Oscilloscope!

These pictures will bring a tear to my pal Geoff`s eyes, when he see`s these pictures……….Mine too!

While we are talking Machine Tools

        Here`s a Break Lathe……..and it`s not the biggest either!

It`s called a Break Lathe because the centre height can be modified by taking the packing bases out

This is a planer and it appears in the Handbook as a Craven machine with the order number

It is actually the "Spoils of War" and was made by SCHIESS of Germany………The name was sheeted over

          Geoff R doubts the story

This is a crackin` thread, eh?………All this free stuff for nowt!

I'm glad you spotted the halfwit thing (or did you?). Paul must be having one of his 50% days; he's usually onto cracks like that in a flash.
Have you tried the wattmeter yet?

Spotted the Half wit, wit right enough

Bogged down with the Steering Wheel at the moment, can't settle down till all the loose ends are cleared up

The paddling pool idea will save a lot of aggro shortly and really looking forward to it……It'll be very exciting

Don't worry I will reveal all!

OK, Paul. The picture is Flatford Mill [aka "Scene on a navigable river"] by John Constable.
Nobody has truly flat feet; the correct term is 'fallen arches'.
Only an oncologist can really spoil my day.

I am still waiting for Paul to tell us how to take account of mass and inertia when calculating the size of speed controller required (and show us some pictures of that super powerfull tug he was building last year)

                                          D M………Control yourself!

When I've sorted out a few odds and ends, I will get onto the Amp test

Need a paddling pool before we start though

I can assure you, that the test will be an anti climax………There will be no frantic flat out start, like a Club 500 race!

The battery per motor is only 7.2v and the first test will be carried out, using a semi flat batteries noting the amp reading and slowly moving up to full power

According to Howes, The Brutus ESC are good for 50amps, last year, but this year, they've decided they are only good for 30 amps, but if the truth be know, they don't really know the true figure!

The VGC is not a speedboat and will be powered round the pond at a sedate speed

Everything comes to he who waits…..So the saying goes

Once the the Maiden voyage is done and dusted, I will adjust my enthusiasm accordingly

That's a good question!….I used to wonder that myself and I was there for thirteen years!

We used to build two or three machines a year and I had the daft idea, they built the machines, just to make more machines?

They were used to turn the blanks for giant gears, what for, is any bodies guess!

It was a simple joke linking flatford mill to Constable ie police constables are often called flat foot. Yes its a little lame and it fell flat on its face.

                                              Gareth

I had already swerved the calculus question and sorry to say that the Thor tug has been wrapped up and put into storage awaiting Haydock.

You wont be able to slowly increase the speed during the amp test as, just like a light switch, it is either on or off.

Paul…..Your Constable/ Flatfoot joke is good, but too way out for me

It would have been more suited to somebody from Bletchley park!

Once again, we beg to differ……I could use batteries of different charge strengths, to get a few variations with the on/ off switch idea

With the paddling pool idea, I can lark about forever and a day!

My plan is to use a flattish battery, just to have pity on the poor motor drives and buy four of what's required, by using the Watt Meter results

Don't see any sense in overdoing things

At the moment, I am quietly tinkering away at the build with no good reason to get it finished…..August is a long way off, but May should see it looking finished for the club regatta's and possibly Colwyn Bay, if we like the performance

                                                  Bob

'Fraid it's not that simple, m'duck. The idea that "different charge strengths" will materially affect the power consumed is a bit like saying that a car's engine will run slower as the petrol tank is emptied.
The factor which affects the speed of the motors is the voltage, and it's not so easy getting different voltages from similar NiMH packs. When charged the cells can be as much as 1.4v each but this will very quickly settle to between 1.2 and 1.25v per cell. This voltage will be steady until about 95% of the charge is gone, at which point the voltage will begin to drop quickly. If you allow it to go below 1v per cell then you'll risk damage to one or more cells – possibly terminally.
"Testing" at lesser voltages will tell you nothing which you need to know. The $64K question is the current which is drawn at the voltage you have selected for the model i.e. 7.2v. I reckon the motors will be running at just below 6000RPM at that voltage; the speed of the props will, of course, depend on the reduction ratio through the belt-drives.
I don't remember what type and size of ESC you had fitted in Brutus but if it was perhaps 20A or more then why not just connect one up to one of your twin drives (via the wattmeter) and gradually open the throttle? If you set the meter to monitor real-time current then it will be obvious as/when/if the value gets above the rated continuous current for the ESC.

                                                  Just trying to help.

(BTW They don't call police officers "flat-foot" any more – certainly not round here!).

I live in a pleasant place called the Fifties where everyone is polite and respectful, the worst thing to call a policeman is flat foot and you would expect a clout around the ear in return.

NG3 5 is similar, save that it's midway between Hyson Green and St. Anns – both of which would be flattered to be called 'bandit country'.
