      Hi Ray, hi Eddie,

some interesting pictures of barge oars you can find in book by March, as Kent and Freston, bge Kathleen drawings.Unfortunately, I can not place it here.

Today I placed the foresail as the last sail on Gusty Cat. It's lightweight umbrella material – somewhat

      violet colour… photo next time.

      continuing email

      Greetings

      Tom

Hi, Ray, Tom, details like that make a model come alive, along with the crew and dog.

          Regards. Eddie.

                Hi Ray,

I did not have pictures of my models in Yuletide dress .sad

so at least the picture is a small reminder of the summer weather now, when outdoors behind the window is frost and snow ..

but ..this I have really behind my window at present…

Hi All, My Veronica is now finished except for a few details, but with the hatch covers fitted she is now sea worthy, I hope! I have given her a new name in memory of my late father and the river cruiser he built over fifty years ago and named her after my daughter and mother, so my Veronica is now Susie May.

                    Hi Eddie,

A wonderful barge with a brilliant name, let's hope she is not too fast 😁 looking at the GRP Portlight hull I have wondering if I need a bowsprit racer ??

                    Regards Ray

Hi. Ray, Don't worry the skipper will compensate for any speed she may have!

Her pram is also now finished so all I need now is a day with not too much wind for her maiden voyage.

                      Regards.

                        Hi Eddie,

very nice model, indeed!! But if you want – try to look at the Veronica model by Simon Hartlett . Currently, other modellers are building also a whole range of models from the Veronica kit .I think there are a lot of these models built… it seems to me that for models from Veronica kit the class races could be organized…

What concerns the weather .. so here snow is constantly falling. In some areas there is snow calamity. I think so much snow was about 10 years ago. The past winter was almost without snow …

                        Greetings Tom

We haven't had snow yet, the uk turns to chaos when it happens , totally unprepared, our grandchildren have had great time skiing in France this week, but I'm happier in the workshop 😀

Hi. Tom, Ray, I couldn't agree more Ray, especially as my workshop is in the dining roomsmiley. I did go sailing this morning but not with the barge it was a bit too rough, so maybe during the week.

Will be laying the keel for Cambria this afternoon I can then prove the cardboard frames before I cut plywood.

                                Regards Eddie.

                                    Hi Eddie,

I have plans for Lady Daphne in 1:24 scale (1´= 1/2" ), Cambria and Lady Daphne have almost the same length (Length Cambria = 90,95´, Lady Daphne 90,75´ ) .(LD in :24 scale=> length 115.2cm, beam 27.2cm   , Capricorn in 1:24 scale => length 110 cm, beam 24 cm. , LD in 1:28 scale length 98.8cm, beam 23,3 cm)

on a scale of 1:24, the LD model seemed too big to me , except for length, and displacement . I counted the volume (displacement)for info  and this is calculated from the displacement of the big vessel Dm = Ds/M3 . I decided, therefore, to build LD in scale 1:28 (model 1 meter length) .. this is my Gusty Cat now .. My Capricorn with her 110 cm hull length and with its 10 kg displacement lies somewhere in the middle. But her construction hull is very heavy, compared to the models that have a laminate (GRP)hull. With large models is difficult to handle, so I chose smaller models that I can better carry to the water.

I wish you the construction of the Cambria has succeeded. I'm also curious about photos from the model building

                                    Greetings Tom

Hi. Tom, as both you and Ray say Cambria is a big boat, but not too big for me to manage,I hope.

With the keel set up on the building board I have now got the final set of cardboard frames fitted, but I started with a copy of the hull lines.

                                        Cambria

I made eleven copies of the lines, folding each one in half and cutting round the appropriate frame number.

                                        Cambria

These were then glued to some thin card using photo mount spray adhesive, with these set up on the keel I could see if all was fair, I had to make two of them wider for some reason and I also added two more, one were the keel fixing will be and another further back in the main hold area.

When I was happy with these I marked around them onto some thicker photo mount card with any alterations that was needed and all the water lines and centre lines marked.

                                        Cambria

With pieces of 3mm. sq. balsa and some bits of brass and bronze bar I was able to again make sure all was correct before cutting any ply.

Slight adjustment was required on two or three frames, but before I applied these I left everything set up and kept checking over a couple of days to see which ones needed to be changed and in which direction.

I now need to work out what wood I require and put an order in to SLEC.

                                        Regards.

                                        Eddie.

Have a look to see if SLEC are doing their special offer of cross grained offcuts of birch ply, cheap as chips and great for bulkheads.

                                            Will be following with interest.

Hi. Ray, Chris thanks for that info Ray I'll check with them.

In theory the drawings should be correct first time but either mistakes creep in or are already there! I forgot to mention that the cardboard frames have been reduced by 1/8" 3mm at the sides and bottom to allow for planking,

the deck line was left as the deck plank thickness is shown on the drawings.

                                              Regards.

                                                    Hi all,

here are the weather forecasts – Two weeks of strong daytime frosts are waiting for us. In the Kvilda hill in west of Bohemia they measured -31.3 °C degrees tonite. and snow -snow – snow here….

I'm afraid we'll wait long to go with the models on the water here..

I will have at least more time in the workshop to finish my "tomcat"…

Eddie – I wish you success in the construction of Cambria model

Hi. Tom, Ray, hank you tom for your best wishes, I am taking my time with this build but will keep you posted.

I was hoping to take Susie May for her first sail today but it was a flat calm no wind at all.

I have just finished refurbishing another old pond yacht, and we were able to sail her on Thursday,

                                                      Swallow pond yacht

                                                      Swallow pond yacht

As you can see she is gaff rigged for a change.

                                                      Regards to you both.

                                                      Eddie.
