That image only shows one corner of Daves vast underground complex, a warren of caves and vaults that are solely dedicated to JD.

Dave does look rough after a couple of bottles of JD

All this sounds a bit like SHED ENVY to me. The chance of a brand new deluxe clean-sheet shed, empty (but for crates of JD)…wow.

I would insulate it with at least silver bubble wrap. The temperature difference on entering my shed now it is v hot is quite noticeable (it is cool inside) due to 2 inches of expanded polystyrene in the roof.

It's not a "shed", Ashley. It's not even a "deluxe shed". Been there; frozen my little bits off in winter and sweated buckets in summer; won't do that again. This is my old shed: workshop.jpg

The new workshop is a cabin made from 44mm-thick interlocking timber logs and the suppliers have told me that it doesn't need insulation. One supposes that if it did then they would offer that as a [profitable] option, much like the double-glazing. I'm not a believer in spending money unless it's necessary. I can buy a lot of Jack Daniels for the cost of stapling silver bubble-wrap or gluing foam polystyrene [aka No 1 Fire Hazard] to the walls and roof – and cladding it with hardboard? Apart from any other consideration it would look ghastly. Only a philistine would do that to something as intrinsically gorgeous as this:

Oh Yes, a deluxe shed building. I am sorry I mistook the word shed for a superior boat building facility.

Insulation on the roof is still a good idea however… of whatever sort.

If you really must paint it green Dave, whatever you do. don'y use the same shade Bob Abell used on his Gentleman's Cruiser.

This is starting to sound like a christmas cracker joke….'When is a shed not a shed……when it is a superior building made from interlocking logs'

Dave we are only jealous of the lovely new workshop especially as it has a smashing veranda which will be just the ticket on one of these long hot summer days……panama on head and cool drink in hand…..its a far cry from my drafty old wooden box.

I go along with Dave, there is a risk that if it is all insulated and re-boarded over inside with some sumptious exotic wood finish, plus of course the super LED strips, WiFi, stereo, TV and Satellite, Telephone, kettle etc like mine then SWMBO will definately make a compulsory takeover over because it would be perfect to do coffee mornings or Pilates in.

Go on Dave, keep it basic, cold/hot and uninviting and keep females out….

Of course he does, it's just that my lovely Summer House with deck, which is very similar to Dave's intended project was taken over as described.

My small model room, 10 x 8 feet is so yucky she won't go anywhere near it, so she has the Summer house and I have the rabbit hutch…..peace at last.

Got it wrong again. I had a call at 11.30 this morning from the guys who are due to build it on Friday, asking if they could start today as they'd finished a nearby job very quickly. They are here NOW!!!

BTW the head honcho says that I won't need any insulation unless I "plan to live in there".

Better to be early, rather than late, as long as you are ready for them, which you were.

As far as modelling goes, it could be like living in there!

So I'm still putting my money (or JD!) on it needing some insulation, particularly to the roof, especially on days like we're experiencing now.

I bought it weeks ago, Colin.
Work started at about 12.30. This was taken just two hours later:

                                                  27 june 06a.jpg

They're on with the roof now after a well-earned break for a long, cool lemonade. The plan is to do the shingles first thing on Friday morning before the weather gets too hot, so I won't be moving in until Saturday.
Ooooo! Isn't it exciting?! More pictures on the album.
