Slow Zap not Zapping!

I'm trying to glue the 3 x 1.5mm mahogany rubbing strip to the Rivercruiser with Slo-Zap but it's not holding.

I've finished the hull with Eze-Kote resin and cloth and sanded ready for painting so it's pretty smooth.

I've held the rubbing strip in place for much longer than the instructions say of 45 to 60 seconds, and even clamped it but it still comes off.

I haven't steamed the rubbing strip to the bend as I thought the superglue would hold it but obviously not.

I'll give it another go bending it this time and using some coarser paper to abrade the hull but other than this any suggestions?

Looking at it again I've been a bit of a plonker because I've used the 5 x 2mm which obviously is more resistant to bending. I'd tried some normal superglue which was taking hold but managed to get it off though it did pull off a small area of cloth which I've stuck back down with resin.

I'd not been looking forward to this part of the build and for good reason and I've still got the chine and spray rails (for the Huntsman 28) to do yet.

As you've found, it doesn't help to try to glue hardwood strip without bending it first. I always hold the stuff in the steam from a kettle (with the lid off) and hold the bend while it cools. Glue it in place about 100mm at a time, holding that steady for a minute or so before moving on to the next section. It works for me. Pic shows 1.5mm x 3mm mahogany rubbing strip, fixed along sanded edge of Huntsman deck with Slo-Zap as described.

Mahogany isn't known to like superglue overmuch so any help you can give it is worth doing. If you continue to have problems then consider using something much more flexible, like bass/lime. This is what I use for the chine and spray rails on my models. You'll find it will also take dark woodstain very easily.

Don't know what I was thinking really, not bending it, just thought the glue would hold it. Second attempt underway, bent, glued and clamped.

Whilst leaving that for awhile I've started gluing the chine rails to the H28 and as you say the bass is much better and has held straight off.
