Rowing boat plans

I’m looking for a set of plans to scratch build a rowing boat, probably quite large scale. I haven’t done any building for some time and I’d like to get some practice with the planking process.

Not sure what scale you are thinking of but you can enlarge plans to suit any particular size.  A particularly good plan for a small clinker built dinghy is still available from plans suppliers, Brown, Son & Ferguson, Glasgow under the title of Ship’s Boats – Smacks, Dinghy or Beach Boat by Harold A. Underhill.  They advertise in Model Boats Magazine every month.

I used the plan to build the two clinker built boats for the Ben Ain, after a bit of playing around with resizing and adjusting the proportions.

Hi Richard, could you show a picture of your boats showing their scale, eg next to your hand? Also any pictures / advice about fixing the planks at the bow?
