A speed 380-400 may struggle a bit to turn two props that size even with a gearbox. Do not worry about weight!!!

You may get away with it if the props are shallow pitch.

Ashley has a point. Motors marked 380 or 400 are 3-pole, high revving types while the 385 is a 5-pole motor and has far less top speed but higher torque to swing larger props. Check out the differences on the MFA website **LINK**

That said, you are using a reduction gearbox so you may be OK with the Speed 400. Happily the 385 will fit the same mount and has the same size shaft, so you could always substitute one if necessary later on.

Thanks for all the info guys.

I have a 385-5 pole motor in my stash.

However I recently acquired two GWS combined 130 motors/gearbox setups, (along with a WTC several servo's and miscellaneous other bits and pieces. All to be used in the supplied 1/72 Revell XIIC U-Boat)

All were purchased from a member of one of the Model Submarine Forums, who have successfully used this setup with 25mm props!

Back to the Gato and correcting some surgery errors on my part, filling in the gaps where I had been over zealous with the scalpel. I used very thin plastic rod to take up the slack between the PE decking and the hull sides.

At the same time I have joined the middle deck section to the stern section to provide a very large access hatch.

            A little work done recently.

Ashley you were right, I have decided to build a dynamic diver after all. As only on 2.4Mhz will keep the fin (conning tower) above water.

I have tried to contact Marks Model Bits with regard to a proper WTC, unfortunately haven't had a reply to my e-Mails as yet.

I have increased the area of the dive planes by 30% using plasticard and filler as advised by others that have built this kit.

PE decking now fitted, just needs a coat (or 2) of paint.

I'm trying to get as much as I can done, as having to have a new shoulder fitted soon.

That will mean I will be out of action for a while.

Beautiful day outside so took some parts into the garden.

A light coat of primer to show up the imperfections that need some more filler.

Gregg. Looking great. Sense prevails (dynamic diver). It would be forever incredibly galling to have a sub on the pond that doesnt dive!!

Mine is not a great diver as it lifts on turns, but the straight line diving is good and thats all thats needed for the bystanders at the pond to show its submarine credentials.

If you were able to secrete the reciever in the fin I should think that would be ok, even better if the small ariel was in a periscope tube or something.

Managed to get in touch with Mark at MMB.

He's making up a WTC for me at the moment, so going to concentrate on the hull.

While I was waiting for my WTC, decided to take on the Eduard PE side-plates. This is the first time I have used PE as large as these pieces.

Formed them up and attached with masking tape, to see where they needed trimming around fittings and fittings placement holes.

I have ordered some Cyano Gell to attach these, as it was recommended to me as being easier to use with large areas of PE.

'Marks Model Bits' WTC and parts have arrived.

Delighted with them, will post picks when I get the chance.

Trial fit of the control runs to the rudder & stern dive planes.

Retrieved from the shelf of doom and now making a concerted effort to get her finished.

Making some modifications to the WTC, so hopefully he mechanical side should be completed

                                  in the next few weeks.
