Just been looking at the Mountfleet model….. Empire Tug

It comes in civilian or wartime guise

In the wartime guise, the decks are painted green and I suppose the paint line in real life would be a right mess! But wouldn't look right on a model

      Will post a picture tomorrow

Not much progress lately…..Can`t decide on the finish of the top cabin….Grey or varnish

These naval chappies slow things down a bit, he`s counting the invisible rivets!

Thank you, Larry for your concern, but I've decided I like the grey look!

There are too many normal Glasgows, floating about?

                Just you wait and see!

I hope that the naval chap counting the rivets is a different chap to the one that counted them on the GE as he missed two off the port side paddle case.

Bonjour mon ami!……..What are you doing in Frogland?

At least you must be feeling better, to travel?

Progress is rather slow on Glasgow now, the daily trips to C`s Place is very inconvenient and messes up one`s day

                    Aurivoir…….however one spells it

Yes and I don't even speak frog (but I can shout and point which seems to work ok)

Completely lost in this strange land there are lots of mountains, just been through Soldeu and still going higher.

I don't know to spell aurivoir but I think it has a w in it.

Bob. Green deck to break up the overall Greyness, and matching Green top to cabin.

Paul. I think you will find it is "oh rev-woir". You were right, it DOES have a W in it.

Although I'm not up to the serious painting stage yet, I'm not looking forward to painting the joint line between the deck and the bulwarks
That's a real crunch point!…….I suppose a good dollop of rust could be useful?

Got a good idea!……..Paint the deck, before glueing in position?

And just live with the glue line!

No.You will forever look at that glue line and see how horrible it is.

I find the way to do these awkward bits is to paint reasonably close to the vertical junction, let dry, then use a very fine brush, and magnifying glass if neccessary, and just nibble away at the edges with small corrections until it looks reasonably straight. Very small brush marks right at the edge will not show and in any case the lack of absolute true straightness will not be apparent from a few feet away.

Just a temporary mockup as a work in progress picture

Ashley……Don`t like having to paint carefully, because it never looks right and has spoilt many a good boat because of it! Actually, in real life the painting quality of such a real boat would be a total mess…….Don`t know why I worry so!

The vents are made in two halves and the easy way of aligning them was to turn a plug on the lathe. The peg end will be handy too for assembly

Nice piece of lateral thinking there Bob and the plug makes for an altogether more robust part.

Without the plug it would have been very difficult, right enough

It required, 10 thou material, meeting edge on!

Would you have done it this way?
