It`s definitely not the weather for launching a model boat!

We`ve got frozen lakes and snow is forecast!

I keep having a look at Glasgow, there`s not really much to be done now

A couple of months yet?

Working on the Galleon at the moment…….It`s now reached an interesting stage

attended the Portishead ship show the weekend and spoted a Lulonga paddler ,

asked the builder how he drives his paddles , this what he showed me ,

i found it mind bogling , what do you think..?.. see picture cheers Larry.

Hi Larry that gearbox seems to be cobbled together from old Tamiya gears from either a TL or TT 01 chassis The unused diff bevel gear on the 1st lay shaft gives them away and I suspect the servo runs a "Bobs" board under the motor mount, good old fashioned technology if ever I saw it eh?

Your gearbox drive looks horrendous!……Don't recco copying it!

Progress on Glasgow has taken a back seat to the Galleon build at the moment, but will get back on it, when the weather gets a bit warmer!

No way , dont have anougth mastic to replecate the drive but have a old ford gear box i could strip down thanks for replying , weather is on the up,….cheers Larry…

Hi Bob just a quick techie question what do you reckon is a good rpm for the paddle wheels on a large model say getting on for 5 foot !! I've got a project in mind and may have dropped on the ideal drive units (Possibly)

The motor drive is a MFA540 motor with a 50.1 reduction gearbox

The final chain drive are equal sprockets……Giving about 50 rpm on 12 volts

The paddle wheels are feathered

Thanks Cap'n it may take a while but watch this space just unearthed 2, 12v bosch motors with built in 90 degree reduction drives, output is app 60 rpm and tourque is huge, so just have to design a hull for them eh ?

Made an effort this morning and tidied up a few bits and pieces

Then another coat of varnish for good measure…..

Now wondering about the colour of the floats?…..The snag is that the paint may jam up the mechanism?

The item has brought more interest than I thought, perhaps some of these old designs were good. My other little paddler has been having a bit of a refurb, new motor, batteries and conversion to 2.4ghz. A couple of trials at Bury gave problems, but now getting there!
