        Thanks Larry

The launch is a long way away at the moment………It`s zero degrees here, this morning!

Get some simple paddles made for your Longonga!

            Thank you, Phil

I find the high level work rest very useful on small assemblies and would be nice to know if other builders have followed suit?

What are you building these days?

It`s not that much of a pain when using a mass production line method!

Very sorry to have to tell you this, Larry……..But there ain't no Father Christmas!…..and the elves are not making paddle wheels this year!

The Loulonga paddle wheels will be a walk over for a builder of your calibre!

Don't know if this will be of any help but when I had some similar slots to cut out I used a router bit mounted in my pillar drill.

                          Morning Paul

Not a bad idea, but the ply would probably split? I could have done it on the lathe too

I did think of making a press tool die set, but getting the spacing right ruled it out

It's done now and glued in position…..Photo shortly, when the sun comes out!

Now then…….Just noticed there are no scuppers in the bulwarks!

                            Shame on you, Graupner!

It`s a fine time to cut the scuppers out now!………Will have a look round for some real ones on the net, before assaulting the rivetted hull plating!

Thank you for those kind words, but I was thinking just the same about your boat!

Did you construct your model your self?………And if so, did you meet the same snags during the build?

                                        Hello Bob,

Mine was a refurbishment from a former club member, who no longer participates in the hobby. This was my first attempt at a refurb.

It's surprising how much work was involved in the refurb as parts had to be carefully dismantled hoping not to split wood etc. Straightening the mast in situ was difficult, has to direct a jet of steam from Mrs H's domestic steam cleaner and keep slowly bending straight.

Your Glasgow is going to be electric powered, which I think is a good move, the steam plant causes quite a bit of damage and I am considering an interchangeable cassette type of power unit, one with electric and one with the steam plant. It wouldn't be a lake side exchange though. Perhaps after after Guardsman.

Watching yours progress with interest (and future thoughts for improving mine). Thanks for the positive feedback on my model.

                                        Tony

                                            Hi Bob ,

Looking better every day, noticed no bulkwarks suports or going to be works on going?….

also thank you for comments on guardsman , more pictures to posted soon ,

a little idea of mine you may notested a printed card profile of deck shape ,

aids shape of deck allows me to fit bulkheads in right place to pull plastic hull to the right profile, and a refrence guid to deck plan , saves pulling out the main drawing ,…..Larry…

For the non engineers, this job could be a little tricky!

I need to bend two Aluminium tubes to form the rear cable guides

First requirement is a former, cut to the required arc size

Aluminium "age hardens" with time and is stiff and inflexible and needs to be annealed…..This is done on the kitchen stove or a blow lamp.

Heat the tube for some time, all over and cool off under the tap

Clamp the former securely to a flat surface and gently bend the tube over the former……..Be careful!…..The tube is now very soft. After several minutes of bending and shapeing…..The Ali…….."work hardens" and needs to be annealed once more

                                              former.jpg

The former……Use the table surface to keep the bend flat

                                              cable guides.jpg

                                              There we go!…..The jobs done

Filing the ends accurately was quite fiddly
