Hi there, I’m normally into things with sails but fancy building a working model of Donald Campbell’s Bluebird but can’t locate any plans. I seem to recall an article in a mag fairly recently but cannot locate it. Grateful for any help.

Ray, there’s a review of a Blue Bird kit here we published not so long ago.

        Hope this helps!

Touchwood Models do a version of Bluebird K7, it retails at £160, but is twice the size of the speedline version. Over on modelboat meyhem forum there is a thread on the merits of this kit, and the faults with it.
Personally i’d go with the Speedline kit.

Also consider the George Turner Models Bluebird K3 kit – very nice indeed.

Ray, you might try contacting the Rushkin Museum in Coniston re Frederick Blois’ book "Rainbow Coloured" and for their CD simply titled ‘K7 Bluebird Plans’. – See the pics of my pulse jet model in the gallery.

                Good luck,

I have the Touchwood kit and it took nearly 2 years to get it running anything like ‘realistic’

It even sank once and sat at the bottom of our lake for 3 days!

It now runs on 12 cells, Graupner 700 and flexdrive[submerged]

Unless you have tons of patience and money…not for the beginner.

speedline will actually mould a 1:6 scale bluebird to special order, and there was an article in one of the mags about this boat and a chap who’d put a gas turbine engine in it……it worked beautifully under r/c but you have to have a bally long lake to sail it on.
