      Hello Peter,

Thanks for the information I will try the telephone number as the web address does not work, Lake Macquarie is not far for me so if I can track Alan down I will go over and see what these models look like.

      Cheers

      Garry

        Hi Peter and Gary

The 1:72nd scale Armidale hull that you have mentioned on the Model Boat Mayhem forum was not from Allan, it was one of mine. Allan does make a hull but he doesn't have a web site, you need to ring him for details.

For Gary: I will send you a PM shortly explaining some options for Armidale models

        Steve.

          Steve,

Thanks for that I had seen your name on another thread dealing with Armidale Patrol Boat Models and you were on my "to" contact list.

          I will await your PM.

I am hoping to get a Model that I can make so that one side is Bundaberg and the other is Childers as they are the two boats my son is on at the moment (the crews rotate between boats), and he loves them says they are the Hi Lux of the Sea!

I think he meant Ferrari but he does like his Hi Lux!

My apologies, Steve, I should have remembered that it was your hullblush

                Hi Gary

I sent a message straight away last week via the 'message member' at the bottom of your post. It wouldn't let me send you a PM as it said that you don't have a public profile on the site. Regardless it sounds like nothing got through to you.

Probably best not to share your email address publicly. If you don't want to enable the public profile on this site then I have a personal web site where there is an email address for me on the contact page. If you send me an email via my web site I can reply directly to you.

I was in the far north Queensland city of Cairns last week, and while we were there, the naval base, HMAS Cairns, conducted its open day. A number of naval vessels were open for inspection, including HMAS Bundaberg. Needless to say we availed ourselves of the opportunity to go aboard, and take some photos. The ship has been modified in a number of details since I built my model, so it was a good chance to gather the necessary information to update it. The most noticeable difference is the modification to the engine exhausts, and the change to the walkway on the forward superstructure. Both of these mods should be relatively easy to do, and I've already started to make the exhausts.

I was also recently given a replica of the ship's crest, by a former CO of Bundaberg. The son of a friend of mine is a former CO of two of the Armidale Class Patrol Boats, and while my friend was visiting his son in Darwin, he was introduced to the former Bundaberg CO. When my friend mentioned that I had built a model, the former CO gave him the crest to give to me, and it now occupies pride of place on my wall.

It was a real thrill to see and go aboard the "real thing", and I'm pleased to say I believe my model is a reasonably good replica. Having now seen and photographed the ship I hope to add some more detail to make an even more accurate model.

                  Peter.

                        Hi Robin,

Unfortunately I no longer have the plans which were very basic anyway. Some information can be found by Googling Armidale Class Patrol Boat.

                        Peter.

                          Hi Peter,

I am a British RC model enthusiast and I am aiming to build my own Armidale class patrol boat but I am unable to find any plans for this boat. I would really love to build this boat. Is there any chance you could also send me information on how to find plans for this boat or is there any chance you could email me the plans like you did for another member? I would be really grateful!

                          Many thanks,

                          Jack

                            Hi Jack,

As you can see from my previous post I no longer have the plans for the Armidale. The drawings I mainly worked from were from the manufacturer's website **LINK**

They are only general arrangement drawings and don't show the frames, which I had to calculate from the the drawings. I wrote to the manufacturer. Austal, in Western Australia, but never received a reply. I relied heavily on photos downloaded from the internet for detail and, as I said above, my visit to the real ship a couple of years ago enabled me to update my model.

As a footnote, the real HMAS Bundaberg was destroyed in a shipyard fire a few months after I was on board her. She was in Brisbane for some essential work to her hull when apparently sparks from welding caused a massive fire which damaged her so badly it was decided to scrap her.

                            Peter.
