This is a famous destroyer with it's part in the freeing of 300 captive merchant seamen aboard the German tanker Altmark worth a build I think 😀 we will need to enlarge the drawing for 1 /96th scale from 38" to 48" long should be straight forward. Regards

Seeing as you are now completely off your own topic I feel happier to contribute further.

Some years ago I was part of a s marine surveying team analyzing the specification to convert a decommissioned frigate into a superyacht for a Middle Eastern Client. It was to retain the gas turbines and having been involved in other work for people from similar geographic regions shall we say, there are plenty of large yachts that have separate accommodation for a full blown security team including an armoury and some pretty scary technology.

As you got us going on this theme Ray, I think it is down to you to start a new thread as see how far it goes. One thread however not three!!! .

Now to leave Roger some space in his own thread.

Back to the current job in hand,

The deck of the first dumb barge ready for primer coat, the inside is already painted matt black hence the masking.

I also had problems with the foam, it kept on expanding for nearly an hour, a bit like a magic porridge pot.

That's looking good Eddie, you've overtaken me, it's difficult to judge the foam right so it fills the space but not overflow too much. Can't make out whch bit that is though?

Hi.Roger, I hope your back is improving and you can start building/sailing again.

No.2 barge is now well under way.

I have deviated from the build sequence in the article, I fitted the ballast tank top first so that the inside could have a good coat of epoxy resin with tissue reinforcement, although the structure is strong enough on its own I thought the resin and tissue will give a good waterproof skin

The excess tissue will be cut off while the resin is still 'green'. The bottom will then be fitted and all the rubbing strips.

I have arranged for the 'raw' edges of plywood to be covered on the outside of the hull, this will protect them from the water and not show through the paint.

Hi Eddie et al, I am getting better slowly, I felt well enough to go to a club auction today for a deceased members lifetimes collection of workshop stuff, quite sad really. Came back with a carload to be sorted.

That's a good way of doing it, I did mine the other way but used some roof sealing compound that remains flexible to seal it all, Coated the bottom and sides then dropped the lid on with a thick coat on and that's never going to leak. I plan to glass the hull and deck then red oxide all of it and the matt black for the hull, not sure for the deck though.

Yeah, keep going Ray , I do have an oscillating engine part built and makings for a boiler and a 1/96th tanker should be big enough for live steam, but I guess we'll need a cruiser or two as well, oh and a fleet carrier, 3 or 4 corvettes……. ummm am I missing anything?

Hi Eddie, Aah practise makes perfect, so where have I gone so wrong in my life . Should have been at the HSME invitation weekend to help out but feel so out of sorts it's a struggle to do anything at the moment , hey ho never mind tomorrows another day and I'll be fine,

I'm thinking I should hire your team of builders or is it you actually pay them and have them on bonus?
