I have coated a wooden hull with Z Poxy resin. When rubbing it down should it give a completely dull finish?

It feels very smooth but examining in the light I can see tiny areas of shiny resin. I am going to apply a filler primer or should I recoat with resin and rub down again?

      Thanks

      Tim

It will only give a completely uniform dull sheen if you've flatted it all down absolutely level. The shiny areas are where there is a "dimple" in the surface and the abrasive hasn't quite touched bottom there. If they are relatively few and no bigger than a small coin then I'd just go ahead and spray your primer/filler. The job of this is to level those areas; just make sure you use a high-build type (Halfords stuff is yellow). When next you rub it down the filler should have occupied those "dimples" and made the surface level all over. It's cheaper than re-coating with resin and a lot easier to rub down!

They are small nail head sized. So I will spray with the yellow filler primer.

For very small dimples and such I use modelling filler from as tube, various makes, used to be known as "knifing filler" when bought from car shops. Fills very small blemishes, dries very quickly and is easy to sand.

However, filler/primer is easier and you will need to prime the surface anyway.
