Are you using the Windows Edge browser? If so then it isn't properly compatible with the text editor currently used on this site.

Internet Explorer 11 should work OK or alternatively Firefox.

There is some talk of updating the editor but I think it is an imported 'freebie' so a replacement may cause other problems in integrating with the rest of the website. You are best off trying an alternative browser.

I actually found Edge to be slower than IE11 which is also provided within Windows 10. IE11 was OK for me at first but my PC started falling over at random intervals which might have been associated with it so I have shifted to Firefox an the problem seems to have gone away for the moment. However, when I am updating this website Firefox can cause problems so it's back to IE11 for that – such is life…

My laptop is staying on Windows 7 for the foreseeable future!

Hi Colin… I have win7 on the other laptop for using adobe photoshop.. and the digital camera…the IE11… I used for a while .. but as you say they both have problems with drivers . I don't know why they don't leave the UK market alone. Its not as if they need the money … we must be used as ware testers.. regards, Ian

I find the editor here to be annoying and non-functional compared with the way most other blogs run their comment editors, and would support any move to change the entire website software if that's what's needed. Asking users to change their browsers is quite intrusive – and more likely to result in them changing the website that they frequent….

Windows 10 has been discussed before and nothing that has been done by Microsoft to change my opinion.

**LINK** Windows 10 is a turkey

DG, I'm afraid that the problem is that the software for the main website was written on a bespoke basis to meet the commercial requirements of the company at the time. The forum module was essentially a bolt on afterthought at minimum cost which drew on the facilities of the main website to save the need to write a new system. With hindsight it would probably been better to have used free standalone forum software which was developed for the purpose.

The company is unlikely to spend any appreciable sums on developing the forum facility as there is no commercial justification and our main competitor does not offer a forum.

Converting the existing forum data to run on an alternative platform with a different database structure and functions is simply not feasible for cost reasons. Anyway, that way madness lies, although I did once manage to convert a complex MSDOS Foxpro database accounting system (wot I wrote!) to allow the data to be maintained on a corporate SAP system. Even IBM were impressed! The SAP system turned out to be worse than mine though, with less functionality and it only cost £2.2m.

However, as Paul implies, Windows 10 causes compatibility issues with other websites too depending on the browser and hardware used.

                        Hi Paul…

Thanks for the tip, it does work when you press shift+ enter.

For a new line and win10 turkey, sums it up.

                        Thanks again,

                        Ian
