I get the impression from what you say that you don't like being the Website editor. I had thought that you enjoyed the role especially as it gave you a break from your jetset playboy lifestyle.

I often wonder what you and Hugh Hefner talked about as you laze by the pool.

We used to discuss the stability curves of Portugese fishing boats and discuss the respective sizes of our main drive batteries.

        As you do….

Back to the world of reality……

We visited a canal museum recently and we had a look inside a traditional barge

It was lovely inside and looked like a scene from Snow White and the seven dwarfs! It was so neat and tidy and very dinky and it reminded me of this thread

Puppies and kittens have a similar effect on people

          Am I making sense?

Ah yes those Portuguese curves….it has to be said that the boats from warmer climes do seem to have more generous curves.

I am sorry to say that my main drive batteries are just about exhausted and wont take a charge anymore and the boats often have to started by hand.

Please be careful with your reply as its almost Christmas and Ashley is excited enough.

            Bob

Sorry old chum but your not making any sense, why is Snow White on a narrow boat?

as for Dave M in his custom built fully heated, super deluxe workshop with hot and cold running handmaidens……well I can dream!

That's all I can do at the moment, Paul. It's painted out but the final electrical fix can't be done until the LED panel lights arrive………from China………in two weeks' time (or so I'm told). That means I only have this awful dull rainy "sunlight" to use while fitting the units, and it's dark by about 4.00pm.
The bloke who supplied the vinyl floor measured wrongly so I'll have to piece-in a few bits of scrap (fortunately all nearly out of sight). He'd never make a decent modeller (4.5m = 13.5ft???)
Wickes did the bizz with the base units and worktops but the metal cabinet delivered today (from another supplier) was not the one I ordered – it was only 1m high whereas I'd ordered and paid for an 1800mm one. More hassle over the phone.
As for hot-and-cold running handmaidens, do you know of a website for them??

Ah me – looks like it'll be after Christmas now. Still, Uncle Colin Bish has promised me a nice little kit to review for his MB Special and Captain Freshney has also commissioned an article about boat electics, so I should keep busy in between weekly visits to the pub!

Paul. Bob means like the inside of a dwarves house (i think), and pretty pretty in the Walt Disney style.

Dave will obviously soon have h&c running handmaidens with not one but two commissions stuffing his pockets.

i should have thought of the santa boat sooner as I have not had an article for a year almost and am running out of readies! (sniff) <but I am working onthis…>

                  Hello Dave

Getting LED lights from China seems a little OTT, are they a special size? I presume that the guy who measured the floor was the same chap who recently sold an up and coming electronics company.

Re Hot and cold running handmaidens….try asking Uncle Colin and maybe he could send you a small selection from the Hefner ranch (and a couple of Hunks for Liz). Talking of Uncle Colin is the review kit a Huntsman by any chance?

As the workshop is not finished you could minimise the trips to the pub by relocating to their snug and working there.beer

When will we see some photos of the new workshop (as its so big does it have its own postcode)

Silly boy! I know the answers to all of these:
                    1. Yes
                    2. Yes (and no).
                    3. No
                    4. Superglueing and drinking beer don't mix.
                    5. Soon (I hope) and no.

I have done 4 but the excuse " sorry I'm late I could not put the glass down as it was stuck to my hand" didn't work.

Personally I cant be bothered with superglueing stuff if I am drinking beer.

A kit review for a special about unusual boats and materials is not likely I would have thought to be a Huntsman as there is nothing unusual about it. And of course we dont WANT to know what it is either.. My money however is on a Titan moon ocean explorer vehicle.

Should try those sticky strip LED I have used, very bright, simply stick underneath shelves or whatever and connect 12v to them. Easy, effective. Too late for me Titanic.

I am getting fed up with sanding and filling now. I have a day off and I cant get motivated to stand out in the garden sanding away. The next model will have a minimum of sanding (as an aside).

I need some sheet lead, flashing or whateverdue to space reasons on a model, any suggestions as to cheap sites welcome.

Ashley!! Behave yourself! This is supposed to be a professional workshop I'm setting up here, dude! I don't want sticky strips of LEDs strung across the ceiling. You'll have me hanging coloured balloons in there next….
The ones I'm fitting are similar to the top item here **LINK** only they each have a transformer to drop the 240V AC and smooth it to 36v DC. I've seen twelve of them fitted in a workshop 50% larger than mine and I was so impressed that any other form of lighting mine was immediately dismissed. Being a bit cautious, however (and also a son of Yorkshire) I'm not even paying half that price for 'em, hence the delay.

Ref the kit review, the forthcoming issue isn't solely about unusual models and/or materials (even if your own contribution is, Ashley). There's little point in a designer reviewing his own model, even if it has undergone a lot of changes in the intervening 40 years, so it's not the Huntsman. I doubt if I'd do it all the same way again, but that's rather the point of the article and further comment must wait until I've done the deed and written it up.

BTW Wickes sell lead flashing in roll form, but cheap lead these days is like rocking-horse muck – there's not a lot of it about.

The kit must be something special for Paul to ask a modelling grand master to undertake the review.

I am looking forward to the build photos, not only to see the tools and equipment of the new workshop but mainly to see the precision and skill of your work.

                                No pressure. wink 2

ps.Those LEDs are very similar to the Chinese ones covered in the Construction News recently that have the problem of overheating transformers. The resulting fires weren't to serious and those who inhaled the poisonous fumes were released from hospital after a couple of weeks.

Still as they say in Yorkshire you don't get owht for nowt smile p
