Similar to the proberviel Chicken and Egg question…….

Petrol or the Petrol engine?

If it is Petrol……….What was it used for?

If it is the Petrol engine…………What fuel did they have in mind?

Hmmm….you can only have a "petrol" engine if you have "petrol" to put in it.
(by definition)

Perhaps it may be safe to say (without having googled anything) that there was probably an engine running on some sort of petroleum distillate before the word petrol was coined….??

Hi All

Was petrol used in burner to power a flash steam car before the internal combustion engine came along ? Amazing the pressure from a coil of copper tube and a blow lamp + a drop of water
