        Hi Andy,

This kit is not rare – it is nonexistent.

Airfix made a model of the Westland Scout but not the Wasp.  I believe that the Wasp was an adaption of the Scout for naval service with attachment points for torpedoes and a wheeled undercarriage in place of skids.

If I remember your Leander frigate is not to 1/72 scale but a much smaller scale.(Or maybe I am confusing your model with a different one).  If that is correct then a 1/72 scale helicopter would be far too big and (in my opinion) would look out of place.

Would it not be better to get hold of a drawing of the Wasp and scratchbuild one.?  At a fairly small scale you do not have to show a lot of detail as long as the general appearance looks right.

        Regards

        Grumpy

          Hi grumpy

My Leander is coming on very slowly but steadily any way i reckon that a 1/72 wasp would go well on the stern end.The " Flight Deck" is 36cm long by 20 cm wide(14" x 7" roughly).I have already got a "Crew" for her and they are dressed in tropics kit, white top and white shorts,i’ve adapted these from the revel u boat crew and from a distance they look the job !!So i reckon thats good use of leftover bits an bobs.

I’ve seen a westland scot kit knocking about some where and will grab it when finances permit but i’m sure that one of the jap/chinese companies make a wasp so i shall have a look and give you a shout.

Best wishes to you and yours and may the wind in your sails never die

          Andy

              Hi Andy,

Just saw this thread & if it’s not too late to post about the helo for your Leander, the only manufacturer that produces a Wasp HAS2 kit is Fujimi, and it’s to 1/48 scale (1/4"=1′), a pretty good kit even for reference. Grumpy is correct as the Airfix model is a Scout, but with some good references from the web a very good Wasp can be produced.

You could use an ealy mark Westland Lynx (Airfix, Fujimi, Matchbox, etc) produced in 1/72, 1/96 (specialist model boat supplier as 1/96 is not a normal scale), 1/100 & 1/144scales (Fujimi also).

              Hope this helps

              Regards

Andy, Is your Leander a late modified version, ie, could you use a Lynx? That would be easy, readily available and once the boat is offshore a bit , a helicopter on the back is just a helicopter, type unspecific. I wanted to make the rotors spin round years ago when I built one. My current 1/96 MANCHESTER has a Lynx but it is made of solid resin with white metal blades so motorising it is a bit tricky …OK, its not difficult but the flight deck was glued down before I gave it any serious thought and I couldnt be bothered after that !! Andy, have you got a Scout kit yet?
