With all this lack of progress, chances are it will never not get built !

I would not look waste time looking up motors such as this.

          But at 6s

I dont suppose 4Kw would be enough anyway for a non project

            How about two of these.

            rotomax 150cc.jpg

            Turnigy Rotomax 150cc (petrol engine equivalent) 9800w, 51volts, 5.2amps Lipo 14s (14 cell) 2.5kg…..price don't ask

I have also been researching PolyZion batteries.

              You cannot be serious…..can you?

              9800w = about 13.6HP = 192A @ 51v. That's about a one and a half minute ride from 5.2AH cells. Helluva ride, mind you.

How much is it to hire Coniston Water?

                  Hi Dave

The reviews are fairly good (but they would be) they are very expensive units and that's before buying the batteries and ESCs.

                  These are the specs.
                  Battery: 14 Cell / 51.8V
                  RPM: 150kv
                  Max current: 190A
                  Watts: 9800w
                  No load current: 51.8V/5.2A
                  Internal resistance: 0.011 ohm
                  Weight: 2530g
                  Diameter of shaft: 10mm
                  Winding: 8T
                  Stator Pole: 24
                  Motor Pole: 20
                  Stator Diameter: 101
                  Lamination Tickness: 0.2mm
                  Suggested ESC: 250A 14S Compatible

No need to rent Coniston as there is a nice straight bit of Bridgewater Canal near me.

When did I last joke about modelling?

I am looking for an excuse to build the non project and these beasts would make the project unbeatable (and even set a record)

You will have calculated the price of two of these plus the batteries . I make it around £1100. I have no idea how much a 250A ESC would cost (or rather two of them) – and then there's the chargers and props – but you strike me as a man with a touch more sense than money.

You don't need an excuse – you need a sponsor. How about scaling it down a bit? If you're not going to build it then the size really doesn't matter; you pay for it with imaginary money.

You may have just solved the ballast problem as I needed something strapped to the bow to balance the hull.

                            Hello Kevin

I came across a great deal on sheets of 4ft x 4ft aircraft grade birch plywood so I bought some for this winters build.

But its not for the non project.

                              Dear Kevin

Ashley has started me thinking with he recent comments about pop pop engines and I am now seriously considering how to use a pulse jet to drive a model boat.

Mounting the engine on top of the boat in a similar way as the V1 pulse jets would keep the intake and exhaust out of the spray and allow the jet to achieve quite high speed.

Now all I need is a four mile long lake and someone daft brave enough to build and sail it.

                              Paul

But it isn't a project so this is all hypothetical

There was a pulse jet car made on Scrapheap Challenge once.

It went well and sounded great.

I saw that edition of scrapheap and despite the noise the pulse jet ran very well. I am thinking of using a Propane/Butane mix as the fuel.

I dont think it is that difficult (hows that for a THROWAWAY REMARK !!!)…the theory is very easy of course..however both jets in the scrappy challenge ran red+ hot…would be v difficult on a smaller scale to insulate that sort of heat.

How big can you make pop-pop engines???

Pop Pop engines are very interesting and there have been various articles over the years on developing them to extract the maximum power, sometimes by employing several in parallel.
