Knowing Bob I suspect that this banter is a smoke screen hiding his true intention, I expect Bob to turn up at next years Haydock show with a secret weapon ………………..in the shape of a purpose built monster tug that will pull Thor all over the pond.

Bob has the advantage of knowing the size, shape and specification of Thor and he is such a good engineer and builder that he will have no problem in trumping my efforts with a truly magnificent model.

This is why I am not taking any bets on the outcome.

Dear Readers

These RC helicopters aren't so easy to fly, just had my first go outside and after a little tweaking managed to get the thing to hover without spinning around.

Feeling very brave I took the machine for a short flight over the shed and surprised myself with the perfect result so being confident I flew the thing back towards me……………and crashed into the side of the house.

Its a good job that these helicopters are made to bounce as a crash and fall from 3m usually results in a sad pile of bits.

The machine is back in its box now and it will stay there until I see my grandson tomorrow who, no doubt, will have every 7 year olds unnerving ability of knowing exactly what to do.

I feel old today

Paul. i am glad to see that this is not the project, and I would hope there is not a big jet drive under there even if it WERE a project..

But, wrapping those sides around a pair of 120mm EDF would make an interesting boat..

I had a jetex motor once and never got the thing going. probably just as well as I didnt have anything to put it in.

Its a good job that this is all hypothetical otherwise I would be talking about chunky brushless motors, lipo batteries and surface piercing propellers.

Think Avatar leonopterex meets Klingons in a ground effect fighter. But as its not a project it doesn't matter

Like the look of your none project. Lift motor in the main hull. high Kv brushless, one in each outrigger. She would really skim along, but this is only conjecture, because as you say this is not a project. But it gives us something to guess about.

Yes to the motors in the sponsons but no lift motor in the main hull, the wings would provide the lift.

not a plane no hardboard (washed my fingers for typing this decried material) ve forgotten what else he has trown out .Must keep a check on Pauls distractions .

I was a bit disappointed by the lift obtained by my KM despite having quite large flying surfaces.

An non project that had as its goal a bit of skimming needs to be very light I would say, not that you need to know that sort of thing but you never know one day…

Both my Ecranoplans will benefit from imminent LiPo fit, and both will have to be modded, both need large tail plane flaps and the KM will need weight up front to make up for the loss of Nimh battery weight. The Km took a lot of work just to go faster but stay level and not pitch up at the nose like a boat. The hull is very long and narrow which also doesnt help…not much hull lift.

Distractions?

I'm not trying to distract anyone with my chat about a non project, its just idle banter to pass the time whilst waiting for the computer to warm up.

Overhead rotors is a good idea and there is a potentially good project with an autogyro for lift……alas its not part of the non project as I now have a lot of spare helicopter rotor blades.

This isn't a front view of the non project, which doesn't exist so its not really here.

Does this qualify as a distraction?

tricky to make, wings…mine have all been flat, so relatively easy. Foam wings on KM just a matter of snading down the right oblong or whatever to begin with, but foam wings are heavier than balsa ones. The A90 wings weigh almost nothing, A curved wing like the fanciful doodle above could be made I suppose by making wood formers, heating styrene sheet up so it flops over the former to the desired shape and then infilling with foam…or even making the former from styrofoam and vacforming the top (or melting styrene sheet over it ) and then carving away the excess foam underneath.

Nice project but that outboard motor doesn't do it any favours.

Meanwhile and whilst talking about speed the non project might have an OS OMA 5025 375 in each sponson, but it doesn't exist so I haven't thought of buying them and I'm not looking for the best price.
