I think you will find that many forums require a minimum number of posts before permitting free use of forum facilities, otherwise we would be overwhelmed by people using us as a free classified ads service!

However, you can in fact fill in a form for a free classified ad in Model Boats magazine which will be included in the next issue subject to space being available.

I think it is simply bad manners to make your first post on any forum an attempt to sell something. It's the online equivalent of (eg.) trying to sell stuff in the pub without asking the landlord if it's OK.

But I am a bit old fashioned.

Always better with a picture if you are selling a boat but with other things such as radio gear it might not matter so much.

I disagree Colin I think it best to see a photo of everything including the inside of transmitters as you never know there could be some valves missing.

Mr Bretman is unable to post replies as he is recovering from a stroke. I am a colleague and am writing this on his behalf.

Firstly I am not a shark, shyster or anything else along those lines. I bought this model 45 years ago for my young son and due to the ever increasing pressure of family commitments it sadly never got finished.

I am now having to leave my home of many years to live somewhere nearer my grown up children so they can look after me and while clearing things out I found the boat and the unused engine. Rather than throw it out or give it away to a charity shop a friend suggested selling it to an enthusiast and sad to say as it turns out I followed his advice.

I contacted the MPBA who suggested your forum.

If I had known how much bad feeling would be generated I would never have bothered. So I am closing my account which will no doubt be welcome news to all of you who have posted unfriendly items relating to my original post.

It's not a question of being unfriendly, sir. While I have every sympathy for your predicament there is a rider on the For Sale thread which clearly says "For regular contributors only".

{That said, there is also a clear message on my answering machine which says "Please don't leave a message for ACTion Electronics" yet there are folk who for some reason think this just doesn't apply to them. I'll spare you the rest of this rant, save to say that all such messages are ignored!}

One post doesn't make for a regular contributor, irrespective of who recommended you to use the forum. It's not the MPBA's forum after all, but neither is it a flea market for all and sundry. As Colin says, you can advertise your model in the Model Boats magazine classifieds for free. It will almost certainly be viewed by far more folk than would see it here.

As Dave says, there is no intention to cause offence but you do have to appreciate that there is a temptation for others to view this site as a free classified ads facility and we therefore have to act accordingly to avoid a free for all. We cannot second guess whether people have a medical condition and, as stated earlier, you can advertise the boat in the free classified ad facility in Model Boats magazine which seems reasonable enough.

Unfortunately, all forums have to contend with the single poster who 'wants something' which, regardless of personal circumstances, does not fit in with the ethos of the forum which is intended for like minded persons to talk about model boating in general with the buy and sell facility as just an add on.
