In my youth I used to go to Latchford locks on the Manchester Ship Canal to see the Manchester Liners travel between Liverpool and Manchester.

Sometimes the crews would give me foreign coins to show where they had been.

Some of their ships had very interesting superstructures .

Yes, fine ships, and I have sailed in similar myself. Not all that comfortable, but we had some great times. Here is Manchester Regiment that I built some years ago.

The replica Golden Hind in London is tiny, the gundeck is so low you have to walk around bent over…even allowing that chaps may have been a bit smaller then. How they would have worked the guns I will never know. The captains cabin has barely room for a cot and one small cupboard.

It is tiny compared to modern ships, it had a crew of 80 (they must have slept standing up)
