          Thank you, Banjo

That's praise indeed coming from a Master Builder, such as yourself

Comments are a bit scarce these days for some reason

How is your yacht build coming on now?

          All the best my mate

You are most welcome Bob — altough I feel I must, politely but firmly, decline the "master builder" sobriquet as far as I'm concerned; with just one r/c model under my belt in the last 30 years, I cannot in all honesty be called a master of anything!

As you will undoubtedly have seen from my other posting yesterday, the Moonbeam build is making rather slow progress, but it is at least moving forward, and I shall probably make a further update later today.

All the best to you, too

            /Mattias

              Latest state of play

Still planking………..Thinking about tidying the run of the planks now

We don`t want an higglie pigglie appearance creeping in………BTW …..Banjo that is Northern slang for a Pig`s Ear!

The last plank shown is loosely fitted and suitabelly wetted

The other picture shows the tail end area reaching fruition

Finally………All the best to our Geoff today, on his visit to Hospital

We went away for a few days, last weekend, in the Campervan

When we got back, I discovered the PC had upgraded itself to Windows 10!

Have struggled most of today, sorting it all out!

Downloading pictures was a mini nightmare!

Just about got it sorted now…..

The last plank for the time being at least

Had to use the weights, to retain the last plank………Crude, but effective

                  Hi Bob..

The planking is coming along …looking good.

I have enjoyed the way you use your skills to get the planks in place.

Look forward to following the next stage..

                  Best regards,

                  Ian

                    Hello Ian

Thank you for your kind remarks, much appreciated

I am enjoying punishing myself, believe it or not, as every plank is a sort of challenge

Some of the planks were very uncooperative at times, especially the 12 x 4`s………but brute force came to my rescue in the end

Got to confess that the back end is not exactly as Vic intended, but the final shape seems ok to me

                    Bob

As a beginner I am enjoying watching the build too, especially the realisation that lateral thinking and improvisation are useful skills.

But I'm most enjoying the fact that your workbench looks like mine! It's given me no end of confidence. Cheers Bob.

PS have you found that peg board clamp thing in the last pic useful over the years. I got offered one by a 'retired' plane builder the other day, minus the clamps which I believe I can buy, but wasn't sure if I would ever need one.

                      Regards, Steve

                        Thank you Steve

I`m very pleased that you are enjoying the build……..It`s amazing how one`s work bench attracts the clutter during the passage of time!

The building board in the background is very useful at times

I found it very handy for building my Sovereign of the Seas project………..Take a look at my thread……It`s worth a look and quite amusing at times

                          Hi Bob

The moment of truth is approaching for you the best part when you turn the hull over and see what you have created.

Well done you have inspired me to start Cullamix tug 39" x 9" from the Hobby Store plan

Unfortunately, I`ve still got some planking to finish, on the other side!

What`s with this Cullamix, you keep referring to?

Can`t say I`ve heard of it?………What ever it is……You can do it!

                              cullamix 06.jpgHi Bob

Cullamix is a Thames river tug model designed by Bernard Reeve and featured in the 1952 Model Maker at 1/2" to the foot scale, the attached photo is of a fellow member at Chantry MBC model with my progress so far.

She looks a nice build and an easy plank too

Get on with it……..You've done the Donkey Work, cutting the frames out!

Don't forget……Let the planks do the work and just skip over the undersized formers………..If there are any, of course

Special work in progress picture for a dear friend of ours, just out of hospital and also brother Geoff……Same

The picture shows the final plank is about to be installed…………WHOOPEEEEE!!!!!!!

Note the method of clamping the final planks…….Chunks of metal, draped over the hull, to captivate the plank, as there is no further room for clamps……An idea borrowed from Heath Robinson and Fred Flintstone!

Then we have the mammoth task of finish shaping and filling

I`ve decided to proceed with the main build now and let the hull finishing come later

I`m in need of some encouragement

The final plank is done and dusted at long last!

It`s taken about five weeks to do the planking, but most of the time was spent…….Waiting for the glue to dry!

The little sander is indeed a very handy tool

It`s made by Gunther Bohler, but is very expensive at £70.00!

                                              Hello Captain Bob

Your version of Silver Mist looks quite large sat on your workmate and should make a very impressive sight when she is launched in June.

Using the thicker planks for the hull has paid off as it has maintained its shape and presumably is quite strong.

Have you given any more thought to a ballast system?

I`m going to work on the deck and superstructure next……..Just to see how it looks

                                                Then back on the hull

Once the hull is sealed and waterproof, I can lark about in Coniston Pool with the ballast trials

Now would be good time for a couple of coats of polyester resin to keep out the damp and while you have good access, did you keep the bulkhead templates to make a stand for her ?
