A lot of progress of late, Bob, and very impressive looking! Those splash walls look just the thing, and I quite agree with you that the foredeck cries out for some proper planking …

        Thank you, Banjo

Still got a long way to go to completion yet………But there's no need to go any faster

The idea I came up with, was to use the 1mm white planks and fit the dark planks edge on as the Oakham stripes!

Got the radio gear tried and tested…….The chain mech for the rudder works a treat

          Hello Captain

Is it a trick of light or have you created a lovely camber on the foredeck, I agree with Mattias that it is crying out for proper planking.

            Hello Paul

It`s not a trick of light……It has about 5mm camber at mid point

Not going to attempt your standard of planking or finish………Just building an interesting average quality model

The dark veneer doesn`t like going round curves……..It`s just like paper……..That`s the main reason for abandoning the Galleon……….No scope for sanding

Probably ok for lockers and cabins though

Made a start on the fore deck planking

Easy to do with no problems

Using a blade as a scraper, to remove surplus veneer and glue

The scraper is very pleasant to use and leaves a scratch free finish

Note the blocks and use of side wall for wedge effect

What`s this all about, Bob lad?

It`s just a peaceful general view of the latest state of play…….Nothing special

It just appealed to me, as a pleasant sight of busy work in progress on a Sunday morning

The untidiness of it all, adds to the interest?

That's a nice picture Bob and reflects the true state of play when making a model.

Before the highly polished and pixel perfect pictures appear in our illustrious magazine, this is what happens behind the scenes (Except DM`s workshop where tidiness reigns supreme ) ( as it would do in such a fantastic purpose built facility) (with "call-for-tea" button)

I dare not show my building space in full flow, it is too horrible to contemplate.

Actually, mostly I use a workmate in the garden (if you know what I mean vicar)

                          The build is looking great.

The planking is a great look when finished.

                          Best regards,

Just finished planking the foredeck……Now in the process of cleaning it up

It used up quite a bit of veneer too

                            Keep smiling

They need to be bent up hill and down dale…….and left right and centre!

Steaming would only make the bamboo more pliable

It might be wise to apply a sealing coat of thinned down varnish to your lovely decking to protect it from inadvertent accidents.

Sealing not only protects the timber it also prevents moisture from getting into the fresh surface and stabilises the grain, which will make the sanding a lot easier and ultimately produce a better finish.
