      Bob,

I did give it some consideration for ther rudder inkage, but as I already have both the how-to and the necessary hardware sorted for a remake along the lines of the existing solution, I'll stick with what I'd already planned.

As for the sail winch, everything is already sorted there, and just needs to be put back in once I've finsihed painting the hull interior, so a late-in-the-day conversion to a chain set-up should be more trouble than I think it would be worth.

But, as I said already, certainly filed away for future reference!

The motor has a double shaft……..So why not make use of it?

A cooling fan to waft a gentle breeze across the hot rheostat? ………(speed controller)

I think Vic would be tickled pink with this feature?

Back on the hull construction now

Devised a cunning plan for access and cabin removal, which will come apparent shortly……..If all goes well

Can you see what it is yet?

All is revealed!……….What do we think……..Ian and Ray?

We`ve now got total access to the control gear………And it looks nice too

The end curves will be finished off when the cabin is in position

The top cabin is now a simple glued on structure

              Hi Bob…

Really taking shape now, starting to see the size of the magnificent build.

              Best regards,

                Thank you, Ian I

The model is making good progress now and is a very interesting build

It is a bit big at 48" but wouldn't find it much fun if it were any smaller

The main problem on the skyline now, is the problem of making the handrails and handrails maketh the model!

Good match last night?………Well done Wales!

                All the best, Ian

No!…….. This is not a Star Wars thread!

It`s only me doing the sensible thing, when excessive sanding

I have a pet theory, that the glue used in the manufacture of cheap plywood, can only be considered as the equivalent to the dangers of coal dust!

So it`s wise to use a quality dust mask

It`s only too easy to get stuck in and power sand away without a care in the world

I did that last week, without a mask and feel very uneasy about it!

I often wonder…….How does dust get out of the lungs?……….It`s a sobering thought chaps

Hi Bob…or is it Darth Vader… I thought the Wales match was outstanding. As for the hand rails will you try wire or pvc tube ?

                      Hello Ian

The stanchions are the main problem

Don't think they would be made from brass on the full size craft, so I may be able to get some die cast ones and paint them

I could even, turn them from hard close grain wood?

                      We'll see shortly

The saga continues as Darth Bob drains the great tea lake of Etherow and prevents the import of Rich Tea from the planet Mackvitie. Will brew time ever be the same again?

How will the Bobabble elves make the handrails or will the Imperial Death Star be forced into action without these critical safety items.

Progress is good at the moment

Got the cabin roof on now

Excuse the sawdust………Not much point in tidying up at the moment

Feel very pleased with the roof removal feature……….A nice solution?

She's really going to shift some water and will be a fabulous boat afloat-as long as you don't do your back in getting her in and out!

It takes me back seeing this stage, and Silver Mist was one of my favourite builds- nothing more exciting than seeing a boat take shape, especially a wooden one.

                                  Watching with interest,

You've got me thinking now………The knackered old motor may not be the ideal motor after all?

Might have to borrow a set up out of the VGC?

                                      Hi Bob,

I didn't mean to cause you to question your decision about a drive motor! I suppose it would be a shame to spoil the ship etc- but that Marlin and big prop look OK and seemed to stir things up when you tested it in the pool. I think Silver Mist is a fairly easily driven hull too. You've got plenty of room to get in there so, as you say, no hurry.

                                      All the best,

                                      Ian

                                        Hello Bob

I get the impression that you are longing to use the Abell Drive in this build and are doing your best to convince yourself that the Marlin isn't up to the task.

How about an engineering challenge!! you could use both setups by fitting the different units on 'quick fit' mountings that would allow for a rapid change over, this would let you compare both setups at the lakeside without having to return to the workshop.

Will Sliver Mist be ready for the Etherow regatta?

                                          Hello Paul

That`s a good idea, but don`t really fancy disturbing the VGC drive system

Will carry on as planned with the Marlin, for the time being

Not much chance of Silver Mist being ready for the Regatta this month……..There`s far too much to do yet
