Hello Ian. it was only an idea that solved the flimsiness of the wings and not really a serious proposal

I liked the idea of the gussets being painted to match some painted areas on the top cabin though

I've since moved on, with the top cabin parts being cut out and propped up in position

However, the air temperature at the moment does little to encourage much serious construction work at the moment

Don't think Ray will be as hot, sitting on the harbour wall, somewhere in Spain, imbibing a suitable refreshment?

Just a work in progress picture to keep the interested parties up to date with the latest idle chat

Everything is in the melting pot at the moment and I`m just weighing up the situation

Making great strides now, but don`t want to depart too far from Vics design

Access to the motor drive, calls for a drastic mod to the main deck area

Here`s a useful tip for cutting out window frames

Grip a coarse grit rotary drum in the vertical drill, then use both hands to clean out the openings…..Easy

The wood blocks are not tart of the exercise btw

            Hi Bob,

It's how I do windows- but I use a Dremel in a router table. Having just got a Proxxon saw table, which is brilliant, I'm highly tempted by their micro shaper, as it's great fun to make little mouldings with miniature router bits. The Dremel table isn't very stiff.

Are you going to stain this ply or overlay it with veneer or thin sheet? I have used 1/16th mahogany from SLEC over liteply which makes a nice stable lamination, and the thin sheet is easier to apply than veneer- if you can even find mahogany veneer. I'll be interested to see how you proceed.

Bob. I don`t do windows very often but I will file away that little gem, useful.

Access to motor drive most important, and if it means departing from Vic`s design a little bit I am sure that will be quite acceptable.

                Hello Ian

I think veneer may be the best option or even the humble Fablon?

I may paint the top cabin and window frames

The rudder mechanism appears to be a long way out of reach at the rudder end?

                  Hello Ashley……Only just spotted you

Pleased you like the window trick……..It does make life more bearable

Wouldn`t it be nice, having a 3D Printer to make a few custom window frames?………And other little trinkets?

                    Hello Captain Bob

Does this mean that you are treating yourself to a 3D printer?

                      Don`t think so, Paul

The learning curve will be too great, but it would be very handy at times

I`ve heard that the cheap eye catchers are cheap eye catchers

Not seen one working yet, but hope too see an example at one of the shows this year

                        Work in progress

Seems a pity to cut through the main cabin roof, as Vic decreed?

Time for a cup o` tea and a think

                          Rear access openings

The large opening just about misses the motor drive, so the cabin hatch is required afterall

Access to the rudder is a bit awkward too

Have finally assembled and glued up the stand

Now`s the time to stand well back and look for trouble!

Have placed a straightedge across the deck and I`m looking for anything out of line etc

Luckily, all seems to be in order

Have decided to install the motor gear and propshaft etc next, before the cabins are glued in place and make life difficult

Then probably seal the hull and do a few buoyancy and floatation tests in the garden pond

That sounds ok to me, mates?

Many thanks Ian……I like to know who's looking in these days

Just having a look at the motors and ESC' s I have in the surplus stock drawer and now thinking, I ought to make use some of this modern stuff from previous recent ventures……Mostly brand new too and abandon the old junk?

I'll have an in depth technical meeting…….After the match

Is it an optical illusion or are the portholes on the R/H side lower than those on the L/H side?

Nice to see you are checking my work!

They are probably not in line……Can't imagine what I used as a reference at the time?

Good job the holes are undersized at the moment?

It's going to be a tricky job deciding what's what at the moment, as you can imagine

The deck is probably a good starting point, when I get round to it

At the moment, I'm fiddling with an ex Brutus motor set…….The one fitted for the Lyme Park run

But the big old MFA motor looks more in keeping

We have a special regatta coming up at Etherow, end of the month and I hope to give Lady Joyce, a run for her money?

Bob. It is a big boat. Install the most powerful motor, there is loads of room to swap them if reqd??? The MFA motor only needs to be roughly in line using a double coupling if it was the second motor to be tried, easy.

Re portholes….make a note….do not photograph anything square on!!!!! Notice the arty pictures in any and all of my articles…are any of them square???…..wink

Here`s something to brighten up the day and have a laugh!

Lashed up the old MFA Marlin motor drive in order to check the system and it`s turned out…….Quite nice

I`m pleased that it runs like an old sewing machine

Also pleased that the antique speed controller is up for it too………For the time being at least

When it stops raining, I`ll try it in the pond, to test the system for the required splash factor and put the controller under a bit of load

I am aware that the setup is quite ghastly, but it is keeping with a model from yesteryear, using bits and pieces from the junk box
