        Hi all,

Yes, sorry Tony, I realise it was Colin who started this thread all those years ago. I have owned a copy of Power Model boats for getting on for fifty years and never really noticed the "It is on record…" bit.

I wish I had video or film of some of my earlier boats. I don't even have photos of lots of them.

Roy, I hope you do get round to Silver Mist, it is a lovely design.

        Ian

Hi would anyone have a built model of vic smeeds snapper. And be willing to build another one I have proved to myself that I am useless at model building. I have since the age of 10 (I'm now 53) always wanted a model of this little boat. I have tried to build it twice now but can never build it straight the keel always ends up with a curve in it

Hi, Tony Hadley, re your mention back in 2019 at the mention Bustler. Guess what? I have just had one come through my hands, but after a bit it did not pass. It is a plastic version quite old and the paint is starting to bubble up. I am bringing her back to life I have given myself til next weekend! Then it must be in the water with new RC.

            regards

            Roy

              Hi Roy,

Bustler is a good model to come to you and to have the plastic hull – lucky you! I noticed a slightly modified one in the "Your Models" column in October 2021 Model Boats magazine, named 'Magrat'. There are a couple of youtube clips of her sailing and it really is lovely little model, full of charm.

                Hi Wayne,

As this would be a commision to build a Snapper for you, do you have a serious budget in mind, I should say the materials, ply with a stern tube & rudder fitted to painting stage is around £100 + the building fee ??

Do you have the drawing ?? And what is your location ??

Have a look at my album for build examples – "Rays Boats"

                Regards Ray

Hi Ray many thanks for your reply, I will have to have a good look for the plans and build instructions. We have recently moved house so everything is a little upside down at the moment. I'll be back in touch with you as soon as possible.

Old thread on Vic Smeed’s designs but I found this of interest.

In Model Boats magazine, I couldn’t help but notice the advertisement by RBC kits showing Vic’s ‘Moonglow’, ‘Suzie-Q’ and hull for ‘Bobby’, all originally from Vic’s drawing board. Found the 1964 design ‘Moonglow’ (MM800) to be interesting looking kit.

                        https://www.rbckits.com/shop/vintage-rc-model-boats.html

Did some further research into ‘Moonglow’ and came across this American version of the kit. It’s a number of Youtube clips which I enjoyed watching, and thought it worth the time.

The build of the kit –

                        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA7xjMLd4Y8

There was room for improvements after the maiden voyage which the builder explains. Nevertheless, good to watch.

                        Whatever would Vic have thought!
