Having seen hatchet latest offerings on the telly i am very very tempted to have a crack at the u boat and checking out their Website i see they also do the Hood which would go nicely with my Bismark but i fear the price , eventually , may be a bit step in the long run but one that i could pay off monthly or weekly .Anyone got any thoughts on this ?????

          Hello Andy

          Beware…Eye Candy!

It will cost you an arm and a leg…..About £1000

What else can you get for Ten Tons?……You could get a Lathe and a Milling machine, for instance

          The world's your oyster?

Well after a dig to the darkest depths of my junk cupboard found `3 kits that i found at my dads when we were clearing it out prior to him going into a home ,they were the graf spee( partly built and painted with most of the bits missing) then i found HMS AJAX in 1/600 , too small and fiddily for my clumsy fingers , and a 1/600 Ark Royal .On inspection all there so not too bad i thought and started to paint it and get it ready for construction and might even make a small diorama with it but not sure yet see how it goes .

                  Hi Andy,

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. After some two years all you will have is a very small, very expensive static model. You could build a 6 foot R/C Robbe kit for the same money. I had a look at the first issue in the news agents thinking it might be worth the introductory price of 50p just to know what was going on. Reading all the blurb about 'grey wolves and iconic U boats etc' it never once mentioned the model was intended to be a Type VII. I just put it back on the shelf!

Having said all the above which only applies to me, it's difficult to knock the job if it gets people into a hobby and particularly our hobby. It's not good value for money but could be good value for many other social reasons. It's a real conundrum!

For anybody that takes it on, the concern must be that the publishers stay the course. I remember a few years ago a similar exercise to build a steam locomotive. The company folded half way through leaving no end of stranded modelers.

Hi Andy Can I bring a slice of reality to your conundrum .For most of my model building I built scale model houses

My Granddaughter came home recently with a smile as wide as the Severn to announce she had just bought a Magazine dolls house ,120 mags with all the bits AND YES SHE PAID £9.00 . I was so down hearted for her ,it was a waste of her money .So I will build her a Manor for little over what she paid for her purchase.

My friend pick something and build from a proper kit or scratch build form a plan .It will cost a lot less ,you will get pleasure from achieving the success you will have .

And remember someone on the forum will help you get past any problems you encounter winkMichael,
