With any luck and some serious planning we are staging a fun sailing day at wellington basins (5 mins from J26 M5) on Sunday 5th September. This is a new event on the calendar for the South west Hosted jointly by Tone Valley Model Boat Club & Wellington basins volunteer group, and all are welcome. There will hopefully be a good range of stalls etc including a model trade stand or two. Also a full days fun events on the water and static displays.

More info including entry fees, timings, programme etc will be forthcoming by the end of march 2010

As this is a new event I’m asking for as much support as possible to help establish it, hopefully, as one of  the must attend events of the south west

Well here we go folks the 1st ever TVMBC wellington regatta is official.
The event will be held at the basins (rear of wellington sports centre) on the 5th of September 2010. from 10:30 to 15:00
entry open to all model boaters and several fun events will be run during the day both for teams and individuals. Static displays once again open to clubs and individuals. Especially for the younger (at heart) visitors will be our clubs “Av-A-Go boats. Catering facilities in the form of the ubiquitous burger van ice creams etc. Various traders still to confirm and possibly a fun dog show for those with canine companions. Vaguely possible is also the presence of some miniature steam traction engines and hopefully a display of working static engines.

Further details and entry forms available from myself (send me a PM with contact details)
              Wellington is app 5 Min’s from J26 M5

Thankyou Bob weather permitting it’s likely to be a spectacular days sailing especially the 10′ mauritania that one member of the Exeter MBC is bringing along

Last posting before the day which is this Sunday (19-09-10)

There is a google map link further up the page in a previous post however to find the venue

basically leave the M5 at Junction 26 and follow signs to Wellington (approx 2.5 miles) at the second set of traffic lights turn right,

follow this road until you see the “Sportsman Pub” on your left, (approx 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile)

turn left, into “Corams lane” keep straight when the road turns right.

30 yds further and the road splits 3 ways. take the middle lane and 40 yds down is where you unload your boats.

the participants car park is 20 yds further on. watch for my assistants directing traffic.

please try to arrive just before 10:00

We have a steering course for the smaller boats. (approx 600 to 750mm x up to 250mm)
Also a 2.4m 60kg hull for those that want to exercise their tugs. we will find you a team mate if necessary! All this is for fun however the best score on the steering course will recieve a memento of their achievment!

If you have a live steam model or a sailing yacht there will be quiet times set aside on the 2nd pond.

Also going on in the field alongside is a host of family entertainment including a fun dog show run by our local dog charity “WAG” and various other “on stage” acts

Having just returned from this event I’d like to give a word of thanks to Phil for all the effort he put in to make sure all ran smoothly. It’s a pity more did not make the effort to attend as it was potentially a good ‘shop window’ for our hobby linked as it was with other community events.
Many spectators were very interested in our models and what it taked to build them. And I think a number went away thinking of ‘having a go’.
I understand Phil intends to try this again next year so keep an eye open for the advanced notices.
                        Rick.

Aw shucks Rick your to kind. Seriously though many thanks for the kind words and the lack of attendance will be addressed by better comunication with the clubs in the area as we clashed with quite a few other events.

As Rick says Watch this space! Especially in january when details of the easter sunday sail will be published.
