It’s a luvvly day and I am popping to the pond 10 ish to test the London out, with its altered rig and also try my new camera! There seems to be a bit of breeze out so I can test the stability of the thing.

        Harry. Unfortunately no and no!,

Oo er. Rather windy at the pond, in fact TOO windy. It did not fall over though so that’s encouraging. The wind was such that only on full power was I able to make any headway even just slightly into the winds.

despite some tinkering, the shrouds were falling off, and after some head scratching as to why this should be, a glance at the boat on its stand showed me why. The masts were bending in the wind (despite the special sails) and the shroud fixings we’re losing engagement.

At home I have started to cure this using a different method…

Richards dying gull was like a speedboat in the wind…cor…racing yot or wot.

Luckily I had a landing craft to play with as well, although even then Richard topped this with a Tirpitz

Shrouds done, although as remedial work it doesn’t quite look as good as the original method but they are very small it hardly matters.

Tomoorow… London and project Z, plus a lander obv….weather permitting.

V windy so scratch the London. Will try the Herald instead…

Project Z will be fine in zis weather, no probs.

No takers for boating today..most likely because they closed the park soon after I got there due to the high winds! Walked around the pond (blown one way, struggled the other) and came home over a carpet of branches twigs and leaves.

i think even the Anglia would be grounded right now Colin

Yes we could not get in at any gate! There was a big tree down across the road outside st marys university so I wasn’t that surprised to find the gates shut.

bit of a swizz as haven’t managed to do any boating for a few weeks now.

Seen a few trees down by me this morning so I’m not surprised they shut the park, especially as it’s all a bit health and safety nowadays.

Next Sunday looks ok at the moment but then that’s seven days away! Can’t complain been a mild winter so far.

Well it’s now Friday and still blowing like a goodun. Had a nasty man-cough earlier in week, been moping indoors doing not no model boat work at all.

decided to up the ante against the mice in the shed as I heard some gnawing and found a new starter nest where there hadn’t been 10 days ago.

Will it be calm enough for Sunday?? If not then it’ll have to be coffee and bikkies in the workshop.

Looks like it might be calming down a bit on Sunday, not that they can predict any further than the day before and even that’s hit and miss! Next week looks a lot calmer.

will be down with the Gull and something else, not sure what yet.

Park car park full when I arrived at 0905 due to a run at Hampton Court. First time ever I have not been able to park Sunday.

its a bugger, just being used as a car park and stopping the use of the park for recreational users.

looks like Richard was able to bag a spot and possibly Noel? Must have been full by 7.30 I recon, as the run had obviously been set off well before 0900.

poss Monday? I don’t have the car for Tues.

Sorry Richard was not able to make Tuesday.

however, a pair of 24v capable esc arrived today and these will be for the Fantome and the Manchester. The fan tome will be able to run its two 800s on a pair of 7.2 sticks and this should restore performance, much cheaper than buying a pair of brushless motors and escs. Similarly the Manchester has a pair of 555 motors which are mega sluggish on anything less than 12v. I usually run it on a 12v Sla, but my pair of sla are past their best, and on 14v hopefully performance of the beast (57 inches) should be best ever.

Trouble is, the Fantome was equipped with an MFA motor/esc pack, and this was well thought out with joined motor wiring via Tamia plugs and so on. OK at the time, now I need to change all this lot to suit the new esc fittings. Luckily the battery lead was extended via a Tamia plug so does not need altering, but the motor connnection does.

Hopefully Sunday I can have a speedy whizz round the pond.

                                        Hi Ashley,

might not make Sunday, wife not to well, it was nice morning Tuesday Just me and Peter, had to wait for the rain to stop first!

Peter bought his big yacht down which got stuck on the boggy side. Don’t worry he said I’ve got my new waders in the car, promptly donned off he wades. He got half way to the stranded boat and then got stuck in the mud so I had to go out and rescue him and push the boat off with my extending stick. It was like a scene from Last of the summer wine! (Not sure who was Compo!)

Geezer. Unfortunately I play at Byfleet weds mornings. Thurs or fri are ok.

fitted and set up the 24v speed controllers in both the Fantome and Manchester. Interestingly the default battery selection on it is Lipo, but you can be mesmerised by blue flashing lights (wasn’t me, officer) and set it to Nimh/sla or woteva. Both battery trays are exactly the right size for twin 6-cell sticks handily.

At least I didn’t let the magic smoke out…

With the big motors and large battery packs mine was just to heavy to be impressive.

Last time out with a 12v Nimh the performance was brisk, on the plane no probs, not fast though. It is a big thing and the actual speed can be deceptive. I expect it will go very nicely with another 800 revs over and above the 5000 that 12v is supposed to give. Once upon a time I was just going to change the 800s for 850s for an easy decent performance boost but can’t be bothered really. It should now go as fast as I want.

The Seahawk goes very well now after a change from 850 to brushless In runner, but changing to brushless on the Fantome would be a relatively expensive option….2 motors, 2 esc and likely new u/j inserts.

Have now effectively rationalised all boats to use 6 or 8 cell Nimhs barring a couple that need my small 2s or 3s Lipos .
