Noel. Ah, Christmas money to spend!!! Like it. Will bring em down, have a chat at ‘t pond. I am not an unreasonable man…..

Ice breakers probably not needed Sunday, seems mild out now but who knows. Will bring the larger lander out in addition to whatever else I decide just in case. Ashley

I don’t think the weather going to be great on Sunday?

Might not make it, family things to do. Have cleared the decks on the Gull, the winch is now inside the hull so lots more space to put clutter, barrels, buckets and possibly some cannons! Watch this space.

Sunday. Cold, windy. Devastation sprang a leak. Hornet. Went well once but not always due to the chop (surface piercing prop! Needs to be just right in the water or the boat is slow). Severn and Hornet now in new owners hands…more room in the shed for new projects! Ashley

            Hi Ashley

About time to get some of your old boats back in the water!!!

Only 33 today, the other day 38 !!!

Fast drying filler, paint and glue with these temperatures.

It was a very round hole in Ashley’s boat, maybe we have a U boat lurking in our pond?

Looked suspiciously like a cannon ball hole to me….

Have shoved a square file in ‘t hole and plugged it with a bit of sq balsa. Was indeed a pinhole, as a small round file to start with needed pushing hard to get through??? Ashley

Just finished this year's Club 500 competitor. Trials later this week and the first event next month. Always loved the Dukes of Hazard, great car scenes and it never required any brain input!

Hi Richard, you know you’ll have to back it up with a Sherrif’s boat or a moonshine boat! Nice job though.

Ashley, no cannons on the Gull, still think it was a very tiny U boat or just bad seamanship, as it was floating around on it’s own for a while.

                    Next time I’ll claim salvage!

Richard s. nice looking boat. I used to watch doh, besides the car there were two other actors I used to like watching…

Perhaps I should invest in anti torpedo netting, Ashley

On a more boating theme, over the course of the last few days sea trials have continued for the Gull.

The sail winch has been moved inside the hull to free up space on deck, bit of a chore as the hatch cover is a bit small for my big meat hooks! The winged keel I found had a big braking effect when tacking so I went back to a standard shaped lead lump with an extra half pound for luck.

Various sail combos were tried in some strong to moderate breezes and overall she sails very nicely, heads up into wind well the only adjustment left to do is a bit more rudder throw.

I am now concentrating on the visual look, deck clutter, cannons and discarded rum bottles.

Arr Richard. You have good scale there to play with adding “stuff” to the deck. I have plugged the Devastation hull hole and splashed some red oxide on. Deck has been revarnished, it’s nice and satin-y now. Check weather to decide on what sort of craft may suit the pond on Sunday.

Spent all day yesterday in Kingston hospital with me mum. Complaining of a slightly swollen and red cankle, it was a bit worse that that. No doctors appt available, but call back lunchtime. Decided to take mum to walk in centre, to forestall the doctor saying exactly the same thing well into the afternoon. Good thing, as they said go to A&E Kingston for urgent doctors check. Anti biotics issued after blood test and so on…

                                  – 4 predicted overnight so good possibility of a very hard surface on ye olde pond, maybe the odd penguin mixed in with the local wildlife!

Tuesday looks a better bet after some warmish rain on Monday.

Taking the mighty Fantome as happens to be displaced from usual hidden location, only on 9.6v though, but will be good ce breaker. Larger lcm just in case. Ashley

Hi Harry “ooh it’s 28 today”…I will think on that whilst the Fantome is ploughing through the ice.

I have fitted a 12v sla, as per the original spec, but the 9.6 Nimh is taped to the top and will be powering it, as you correctly think, I will need the extra weight for the ice. Have prepped it on t.he sofa and as usual have been impressed by the manly purr of the MFA 800s. Can’t remember offhand which esc I have, but the motors will turn very nicely at minimum revs and purr like lions.

Larger LCM also ready. Think I will put wellies in car as well as my 10m fishing pole, just in case…

MFA 800 purr like kittens !!!

                                            G60's roar like lions!!!

You could fit a small electric chainsaw to cut the ice.

It would be right up your alley in ideas !!!!!

Fantome is the ultimate ice breaker!! Fabulous fun, the extra sla weight coming in handy, and the 800 motor/50mm X props are a powerful combination. Trevor had fun with the tug barring a lost prop, (sorted from spares) and we even managed to clear sufficient space for a pirate ship to sail!.

Despite a lot of ominous crunching sounds, my props were unmarked afterwards, and the hull similarly untouched. Next week I will bring the Fantome, either to break ice or just cruise around.
