Colin. The first thing you have to do on joining the ship is go up one side, over the top platform and down the other. A bit scary at first, but you get used to it.

More impressive is mastering the plethora of free and standing rigging at any of the mast stations. The trick is of course ALL the stations are the same so get the idea of one and you know `em all. Various yard or sail functions have different colour or types of rope which all helps. Doesnt take long to get a hold of it all.

A new training ship is being built at the moment to replace the Royalist, abroad of course. probably have a P.C name… TS Bland or something, eh ??

Today. How cold at the pond "!!!! only 5 hardy spuld there.

Sailed the T22 in the veritable hurricane that was the pond. Forgot to ballast it properly and added a few lumps of lead at the pondside but never got it quite right. Not that this mattered considering the wind anyway. My rear sealed off deck portion working very well as the rear flooded very quickly but after an hour in the water the main hull was bone dry.

Trevor has progressed on his…what was I going to call it?? Puffin..I think.. a good name considering th…well, considering. He has covered the wotsists with something and it is an all over white colour now and its amazing the difference it makes to the look of the thing. Same thing happened when I was making the KM. It took so many alteratiuons and sailings that I had got used to it looking like a right dogs dinner in splodges of different colour primer and blue foam, and when I resolved to get on with it and stop faffing about I painted it properly and hey presto!! A complete vessel after 16 months of carving and prevaricating.

I did take HMS Jersey OPV to the park but left it in the car as it was too cold. Made a bulk purchase of Planet T6 receivers and a few ESC in order to convert and equip those boats not 2.4G capable and was going to fit one at the pondside but numb fingers got in the way.

It did snow on Saturday for a bit but not cold enough to freeze over. No doubt the pond will freeze up again so I will get the OPV ready for icebreaking duties just in case. The hovervan also needs equipping with a 2.4 rcvr and the remote on/off electronic switch i purchased a while ago for the lift fan.

        Get them thermals ready !!

Unfortunately have a band job Sunday afternoon so no boating. Unfortunately.

Should be ok next week however we are going to a Valentines masked ball in the Denbies vinyard on Dorking, Surry the night before and will be late home and hopefully DRUNK (or I may have to drive) so we will see,….

              Mask ad tux all sorted.

Raining now and v grey….12v SLA being topped up for the Invincibl assuming it is dry tomorrow and I get up in time as bit of a drive back from the ball and a lateish finish. I do hope the band plays more than the 80% foxtrot selection wot they normally do or we will be BORED. The lights on the carrier will be of great assistrance if it is dull at the pond.

May take the T22 escort along for an invisible tow nas well and of course a lander of some sort for rescue duties and small boys to play with or indeed anyone who has not got a boat.

Nice day on the pond, bit nippy not too bad, bright. Pond full of manderin ducks , ordinary ducks and more ducks, and seagulls. A couple of swans snipig at small dogs and the usual canadian geese and egyptian ducks..did I mention the moorhens? No heron, a day off perhaps.

Invincible behaving oddly, cutout on full throttle,,ok full reverse/.. 2 x 12v 7Ahr SLA powering it,….lights seen to dip when throttle applied….on taking boat out I thought one of the batteries was not plugged on properly but the real culprit was not having the connectors on the battery terminals properly from previous charging !!! silly boy. Batteries must be not performing as new now and obv one battery was just not giving sufficient out….#T22 good on its tow, gets some water in due to the unnatural behaviour on the water but not very much.

                Next week…who knows????

Who knows indeed. I do know there is the "Hampton court half marathon" on Sunday, and the "Ditton dash" which both go over h/ct bridge starts 08.30 not sure when the runners will get over the bridge (its on the return loop) or how much bridge will be closed????

Trevor is threatening to bring his project down, and having seen a film clip of something similar I am expecting great things (no pressure)

I might bring the Oberon down for a dunk, as a change.

Blooming cold at the pond, and thin ice!! Took the big LCT4 and had a smashing time doing some light ice-breaking. Handily I had a 12V batt fitted for max oomph form the 3×385`s but one under way it was spiffing.

On me own for a while until I could pester a DAD who came down with a small boy and small RTR slow speedboat (ho ho my LCT was faster) but the small boy was happy.

Main event was of course Trevor and the first test of his..now what was it?? of couirse…project no1. By this time Ray had joined us so we could umm and arr as to the fine adjustments needed.

For a first go, out the box as they say , I was impressed. Trevor was well impressed I think as he had low expectations (and that is how I go about these things, have low expectations and you will not be disappointed…) and Ray could not believe his eyes.

As is usual for these things, the more adjustments that were made to the xxxxxxx and also fitting different batteries and taping xxxxx to the xxxxx of the boat, the worse the preformace got, but this is not to say things were not going well, as valuable pointers were learnt, and water entry was an issue mainly due to the experimental nature of todays outing and hatches and so on that were not sealed as they will be once all the mucking about has finished. Proceedings were bought to a sudden stop when an important part fell off, although it may have been that something else had stopped working by then anyway ! Eventually you will see what I mean , especially in the propulsion department, upon which there was a lot of Plasticene piled on top of, or under in some cases…..

I would put some pictures up but the camera battery went flat. What a shame.

All to play for. I will be going through all this later on this year with my Proj no1 and if its first run is as successful as Trevors I will be dead chuffed.

Bob, it will be fantastic. My craft will display a range of techniques not hitherto seen on this forum (hot moulding of hardboard, for instance) and Trevors , well , what can I say (nothing). Actually Trevor is using a technique recently discussed on other posts, funny enough, and it appears to be working ok.

Oddly enough, and I have said it before, something has come up out of the blue and I have just seen something to make as this years project No2, and it is as fantastic as the rest. It may be one is the eye for our tame designer incorporating as it does elements of certain theoretical craft , elements of which were previously though to be unique and so on.

However I feel safe to air such views as he is currently enjoying R&R as the convenience of the Russian government (allegedly). Joke…how do you know its two o`clock in the morning…etc etc

Trevor has just e-mailed me the most outrageous craft which will form his project No2. A veritable missile and I sense yet more brushless technology and no reverse.

It is almost as outrageous as MY project No2, and as it happens I may have spotted project No3, although this will not be until next year at least. Project No2 will be something smart and veneered, unusally for me, with at least 25 coats of varnish (or Paul will shout at me). It will also feature some gleaming aluminium and a man with a white silk scarf.

Last Sunday when there was thin ice about I was a bit miffed with myself for not taking the Jersey down, as this is a cracking ice-breaker, having a stiff fibreglass hull and a powerful motor with a big S50 prop for sustained pushing power. I have purchased some spare ESC and Rx so there was no excuse really, but it was J cold and I didnt want to fiddle about too much.

                                      As below, but no ice.

Having had a day off today and it being nice, Im popped down the park to see if i could see Trevors missing parts, but the water is still very opaque with gunge and water fleas.

I have pulled my finger out and fitted the Jersey with electrical bits so that is ready for Sundays icebreaking (hopefully, ice, that is) and in a flash of inspiration thought that the carpet carrier would also double up, as despite the hull being made from a superior man-made board, the bottom of the boat up to the waterline was covered in glass-fibre, making it suitable for ice breaking.

Dissappointment in the new boat stakes, as a nice littlle 1930`s style boat I thought I would knock up is in fact a tethered hydro design, and a fairly common kit (at the time). BUT I did like the look of it and I might make somethimng similar along the lines of. It was called "Challenger".

Glorious day. Bit of a wind. Ray had his big Thames barge down, and was looking good.

I had the jersey and ilustriuos, Trevor turned uop with proj No1.

This, after a few more adjustments and a different prop, was going best yet, however was much affected by the wind, and also the motor kept on slowing….this, on reflection, may have been the ESC which was `as is` out the packet and probably set up for Lopo batteries. I have had od effects on the Ecranoplan before I bought a program card, as the ESC looks at lipo and Nimh batteries diffferently. Fortunately, he is using a JP Pro ESc for which i have a card for, pop round just give me a ring, as I am using same ESC type on my project and indeed the foam flyer.

snaps appended the observant among you will notice a lack of masting on the Jersey…broken off years ago and not mended, as boat rarely gets an outing nowadays. Was my first "proper" boat 30 years ago.

One of the stands was run by a military group, based in the Bury area and the chap in charge is working closely with Mountfleet models, who are producing a very nice Landing Craft at 1/12th scale

They have powered ramps and can accommodate Rc Sherman tanks

                                                Price is about £158.00

The chap remembers your D – Day activities last year

Plenty of scope for add on bits and pieces

Photo to follow, when Duckie wakes up!

Bob.Look forward to that. Unfortunately we were building for quantity rather than quality, and also just as an aside to our various projects.

had the herald out today and there was just a nice drop of wind for it, Went very well. Had the ferry out for rescues (one). Argus stayed in car as spend whole time looking to see where the boat had got to and then Trevor came down with his project No1. This occupied a fair while as adjustments and musings were taking place.

6 of us today. usual mix of stuff. Impressed by Andy`s 48 Huntsman. Went really well.. Brushless, and on a 2s Lipo. Had a bit of a nose up attitude at speed, and a level if not nose down at rest, but we thought on balance this would be best as the nose up attitude would give better sea keeping. Proof of the pudding was handling the chop today really well. A marvel. Iain`s Cobb Crusader also much improved by a bit of ballast shifting ands waterproofing, nice one.

                                                  Ashley pic….huntsman.
