        Wowsy..over 10 years of “today’s boating”. Gosh.

THE PHONE ( the mrs’s phonej says 1000% precipitation today, and it might rain.

Might pop down to the pond at 9.30 to test the project as I am only 10 mins away.

**update, the phone says cloudy but dry 2-3**. But the phone also says it’s raining now but it isn’t……

Can’t believe it’s been about 5 years since I retired, although the last year and a half has been more or less wasted by The lurgy.

Built lots of boats of course!

Harry. I’ve seen those pictures of you drunk at the Barbie………

Quick test of newboat. Filler- in wedge to convert the front slope to a more of a step was attached with tape and some benefit was noted, although it may just have been the extra buoyancy making the difference rather than any hydrodynamic improvements?

Seemed stable enough with the new weights set into the foam underneath, and although a few more oz of rear weight was tried the boat then became unstable and was quickly docked before it turned turtle (again)(in previous tests).

The wind diverter plate upfront perhaps had some marginal effect and overall there was slightly less spray. I think this is going to be as good as it gets.

Photo session this morning, finished by the time the rain came in seriously.

                  Lovely snaps Bluebird and fishy.

Both had some water in but I think that in the fishy was due to mishandling when fiddling about on the water juggling camera in one hand and fishy in the other. Good news is that dribbling EzeKote between fishy’s “lips” seems to have cured the rampant water ingress.

As usual the few people that saw it only thought it was a fish and nothing Terror-ble.

Some water in Bluebird but everything waterproofed now so no breakdowns. I may have to re-visit the hatch arrangement, and as today’s session was low to medium speed so wondering if there was water inside because the edf wasn’t running fast enough to pull the spray through the jet orifice..?

Sorry geezers. I will see what I can do once on the pc (on iPad now) but obv these are TOP SECRET…know what I mean😇.

i believe that unfortunately another treat will be floating your way soon. It is round and does not have a bow. It doesn’t even have a propeller, of either type! 🛸 it really is out of this world.

It has thought and mind control even! (Ahh…I thought it would Miss that other boat, but never mind)

                              Hi All,

We all know following Ashley's builds is rather like listening to the radio ! and all the more fun for it (maybe)

But you must remember that he operates in Secret from his fortified Schloss in the mountains of South West London and is only let out to test his creations and play music

As you know I publish my various builds on here as I know there are only 20 – 30 regulars on this forum and won't be a major surprise if they are published at some time in the future when the page and plan rates return to a sensible level

Ashley will if PM'd will email you the secret photo's (Thanks Ashley) but the latest space craft has me stumped

Regards Ray ( At this point I'm not going to mention the Football )

                                    Hi Ashley

Thank you for a trip down memory lane

In many ways my younger self preferred Stingray to Thunderbirds, the main attraction was Stingray itself.

I always wanted a Stingray toy and my local toy shop had a 3ft one in the window for £10.10 shillings, which is something like £160 in todays money.

Back in 1968 our little village was blessed with 2 toy shops, the one with the Stingray had a decent range of Airfix kits and the shop next door sold Revell and Frog, I was a regular in both shops.

The shop owner had noticed that hadn't bought any kits from him for a while and when he asked me why I explained that I was saving up for the Stingray. he offered to put the Stingray to one side whilst I saved up the money and even offered to reduce the price to £9.00.

He was a really nice chap and often included a tube of glue when I bought a kit from him.

I could never save enough from my pocket money and paper round to buy the Stingray but I did try.

                                    Very happy days.

Just seen your post, I only ever knew it as the Terror Fish but I loved the way Gerry made the fish and Stinray leap out of the water.

                                    Paul

Shame you never managed to buy it Paul, would have worth a fortune now!….and probably motorisable.

I have the Matchbox one, the medium sized clockwork one and of course the small Matchbox die cast one, a;; common enough along with the figures that go with them. macdonalds did some cup covers of Fishy and Stingray which are novel

. I also have the Matchbox Marineville base, which can still be had on e-bay for very modest amounts of money.

The Stingray body is based on the Tup, and when you see them side by side you can see the similarity. Its always something i have wanted to build but hitherto thought it was too difficult.

The fishy was an awkward thing, as usual I made it up as I went along. Another sculptural item all artisty and stuff.

                                      Leaping out the water….now…..

Thanks for the pics Ashley – they both look really great – we never saw too much out in the backwaters – Beano, Dandy and Eagle was about as far as it went …….. TV only arrived when I was 17 odd and more interested in Motor Cycles – we were allowed to ride & drive at 16

It would definitely be a contest between you and Ray as to who is the most prolific builder – constantly amazed by both of you – and such good modelling too even if it is in different styles………

I lived opposite a toy and model shop when I was a wee lad, so numerous Airfix models hanging from the bedroom ceiling and over the years two train sets, OO and N.

We we’re friends of the family who ran it and on firework night he use to bring all the unsold fireworks and let them off in the allotment behind our house. When your 10 it was quite awesome!

life was a lot simpler then. (Rose tinted glasses maybe?)

Its a shame that using models in film work isn't as prolific as it used to be.

I remember writing to Mastermodels link in 1970 (I was 11) and asking them if I could work there after I finished education in 1976.

A very nice letter came back from the MD with lots of photos showing models that they made for Gerry Anderson.

Much as I loved Stingray and Fireball XL5 and Supercar before that Thunderbirds was the first one to use weathering to try to make the models as realistic as possible. I remember very clearly watching one of the very early ones where Fireflash couldn't use it's landing gear so had to land on the 'Elevator Cars'. The sequence was unbelievable to me and was undoubtedly the reason why I got into modelling from a very early age.

                                                Fireflash

Its also why I bought a very rare Japanese ready made model of the Elevator Car. That's my excuse anyway.

The Terror Fish is brilliant Ashley, I'm sure a soda syphon CO2 bottle can be used to make it jump out of the water!

I always wondered just how long the runway must have been to land the Fireflash ?

Fishy turned out better than expected! Uses our new “a-la-mode” propulsion system, sadly not the twin aquajet system as fitted to the originals.

Harry. Time for long trousers and a jumper eh? It’s probably as cold here at the moment as it is in Taz….

Richard you will be giving Ashley ideas – Fireflash as an ekranoplane……………

Hard to believe we enjoyed things like Batman & Robin and the old westerns etc at Saturday morning flicks where everyone swopped comics before the movie and at interval – all the excitement for the week in a small colonial town. Never saw Thunderbirds though

There are some pretty impressive fireworks nowadays that would do the job as well. Mind you it might be a one off!!

My Mum and Dad used to drop me and my brother off at the local Odeon so they could go shopping in peace. It cost 1/9 each for a couple of hours of cartoons, possibly an episode of Flash Gordon and a movie.
