            A point of interest.

The Victorians designed something similar but without engines, it was an inshore bombardment platform intended to sit in the river mouths of strategic cities.

The platform would be positioned at high tide and then drop its legs to the sea bed and be jacked above sea level. This created a very stable base for the big mortars to bombard the city / port / ships.

To move it into position it relied upon tugs that fitted into specially designed slots that were built into the platforms hull. Once in position the tugs would retire back to a safer location

It never made it off the drawing board but as far as I know it was the first ever design of a jackleg platform

Where is the best place to buy propellers one line?

                Brian.

George Sitek makes nice props at reasonable prices. BUT Cornwall Model Boats and Howes Models sell them.

Anything special or just an ordinary brass prop?

Paul. They probably decided that it was too much faffing about. They did make mortar boats which they used in the Crimea and so on. Sort of a mobile idea from the round thing?

There cant be many other round ships made. A quick google only shows the Novagrodski (or woteva).

Did some filling today with car body filler. i only had to wave the hardener at it and it started to set!!

Ha! Wouldnt get many elephants on that! But it is round, sort of large coracle.

We talked about building a Noah’s ark. The cost of sufficient plastic animals was deemed too expensive…

Noah's ark I have made but didn't try it on the water. Not sure my granddaughter wanted it to get wet.

Like that Tim. Funny isn’t it, virtually all Noahs Ark toys are of that design. I suppose if you want something that is boaty, has a door to get the animals in, and a cabin for mr and mrs Noah…that’s the kiddie! Great animals.

On the beach!! Nice for some …

Walrus fantastic today. What a difference the water rudder extension makes. Boat steers luvvly at low speeds and the straight line stability at speed is good. More than a few v high speed runs no probs.

Ecranoplan with new motor very fast, Noel . Very fast indeed, oddly enough fastest at about 80% throttle, as pushing the stick forward also pushes the nose down and actually slows it down!

Did I say how fast it was Noel?.

BHA by comparison massively slow, unlike the Ecranoplan Noel, and ponderous but hey ho, still fun.

Hi Harry. The issue is that the pull/push of the prop is very high at the rear. The only thing that could be done is to have a slightly downwards angle on the prop, to attempt to push the rear end down, but that would look really odd.

As it stands, I could probably move the battery back a bit to compensate.

Its well fast as it is, and actually not having to use full throttle is good for the current consumption. I will try some smaller props. It is fitted with a 5.5 X 2 at the moment.

It also tells me that the original motor was far too high speed (3700Kv) and although was only taking its max allowed current, obviously wasn’t producing the sort of thrust this motor is. I think they are probably about the same wattage, just much lower Kv on the new one, 2600.

Ashley . Going to be scorching again today! Sun cream a must for boating.

OK, the battery moved back would be easier.

We had a scorcher day 14C, but that's winter !!!

A good turnout at the canal Saturday with 11 boats in the water.

One of the members is building a THOR tug boat about 1.3 Metres long.

Twin Stainless steel korts nozzles with 4" angle grinder gears for the drive.

I pickup one for the nozzles without the shafts, gears and prop.

                                              Oh boy about 4KGS .

One of the electric motor is about 2KGS.
