I have a landing craft. It is a 1/35 scale plastic conversion. I changed the motors last year but haven't got around to trying it yet. Perhaps I should get around to making a carry box for it. Guess I will have plenty of time over the next few months.

Come on Guys! Metre, Metre! What's wrong with six foot two? We are British after all. Hopefully we will all survive to sail another day, but only by keeping safe. John

Nothing wrong except that 2 metres isn't six foot two. It is just under 6 foot seven (that feels really off to type!)

I never did get the hang of the new fangled metric system.

Almost tempted to finish spraying the Bluebird today, but instead spent the day “restoring” a Mettoy mixed passenger train set box! O gauge of course. Spent some time researching to see what it had inside it and found that I have virtually everything I need to fill it properly.

it is wonderful sitting in the warm sunny garden and having paint and glue dry in minutes rather than days.

rest of day spent using my exercise allowance cycling round Bushy Park, and painting some Samurai figures (54mm)

Tomorrow I might paint the Bluebird, and sort out the infinity/K7 roundels for the sponsons and union flags. I also need an image of Donald, as the driver…or at least, something like it!

I'm equally at home with both systems. Had to grasp metric as I was in the architectural profession. When doing surveys I initially estimated sizes that I couldn't measure in feet and inches but was then able to estimate in metric.

I now use both and if anything metric more. For smaller things like model boats and DIY I use mm because of the small increments and it's easier doing drawings but if talking about e.g. room sizes use imperial as it's easier for folks to visualise.

Yes, it was pleasant being able to sit out in the garden for a change having done a bit of gardening and mowed the lawn for the first time yesterday. Got a bit tired of just working inside the house though it's been good to get back into model building.

For old people yes. Surely youngsters are taught metric only and have been for 30 years+.

I much prefer metric as it is easier to manipulate the numbers in my head. I never use cm but only mm & Metres!

My pet hates are rulers with metric on one side & imperial on the other and those terrible measures beloved of TV programs .eg weighs as much as 7 London buses or the size of a football pitch even though football pitches can vary in size enormously and such measures are just pandering to the brainless.

There’s no doubt about it that 0.56mm is easier to work with that 128/365 ths or 96/135 or something.

So saying, i use both. All my boats are in inches for instance…

I know for a fact that DM uses fingers to measure out his JD, and not cm.

tomorrow definitely spraying Bluebird, as have now fully restored and populated the empty Mettoy box…other than I have a lack of Mettoy carriages.

Our age group is unique in being able to flip between imperial and metric, it was a pain at school but it became invaluable in later life on construction sites as I could easily transfer between metric drawings and imperial tradesmen.

I thought as much, just didn’t want to say….

Havesprayed Bluebird, and have a nice shiny finish. Very very small slight sag on one sponson, not noticeable.

Less (work) is more when it comes to spraying. If I were to flat that off (and it is very slight) and re-spray, I would have to do the lot, as overspray would show on the other shiny bits and you know what would happen…dust or a run somewhere else.

I could flat it and T-cut it but this never seems to look the same as a straight “gun” finish.

Weather supposedly changing to cold again, so may have done this just in time.

On the bright side, we may get some snow and I can take pictures of the ZiS!

Love to see bluebird now its painted.

Was looking on ebay, as stuck at home now.

                              Saw this: **LINK**

Its 8ft long. Massively tempting as its largely built and needs the hull skinning and finishing. Might need to be split in two to make it transportable.

                              Probably a massive challenge. LOL.

That’s a challenge Noel. But the hard work has been done. Cost a fortune in little planes!

Trevor’s corvette was skinned with 4mm ply cut into strips on my big bandsaw, cheap and easy..

its no good, the Bluebird sponson needs re-doing, but I think I can get away with spraying the one, using a mask to prevent overspray.

Ideally it needs a pumped water ballast system to save lugging 18kg of gravel to the pond.

Ah, this is jolly funny really.

                                            I was expecting caution.

                                            Not encouragement.

The observation that a lot of work has gone into it already is what was driving me, ie all the frames in place the deck cut, even the island made up (needs skinning).

I reckon with the copious photos of the old Ark available you could indeed complete it as a decent stand-off model without drawings

But it would have to be put into two halves. Even if I roof racked it on the car, its too big to store at 8ft long.

Easy to make it "separatable" I had two half inch bulkheads separated by 3mm balsa, once skinned and sanded just cut through the skin at the balsa and hey presto two halves (it helps if you have remembered to drill bolt holes when laying the keel ked attaching the frames).
