We were thinking about a VE day bash at the pond…..so would be either 10th May (after) or 3rd May (before).

Some bunting, tea and cakes, display OF ww2 era boats/aircraft.. ??

Could be something to aim for Ray, if we make a decision. Bring the old Cossack down and give it a THRASH.

          Good tip thanks Ray.

RE VE day we can have landing craft and destroyers – could you get Nelson out too?

Ideally we need some American jobs and even a Japanese one.

i only have a smallish USS New Jersey, and an even smaller toy “Famous battleship” in a box which is the Yamato.

I have half a dozen small Jap planes, courtesy of the “reserve collection” (Berengars toys) and could make a carpet carrier type deck to put them on, as display piece?

Don't worry about the Japanese contingent. As far as I know they weren't involved in the European theatre. Dad was still a guest of Emperor Hirohito at the Ambon Hilton when the rest of the UK was celebrating VE Day.

                  Awful, truly awful.

This was the sort of thing that human rights was set up for, not to ensure prisoners can have a colour tele and drone access.

Thanks for that. VJ this year is 10th August. I shall visit Mum & Dad's grave on that day and probably have a little tear in my eye, which I shall put down to my Wet AMD.

                      …..anyway…

today will be saucer, Bluebird (if not windy), Hobbies Hydro (with new prop spacer) And a lander .

Richard molested a handy alloy cylinder on his lathe to make a 6mm spacer for the Hydro in order to move the prop away from the tower and this has worked a treat, and using the longer threaded adaptor has enabled me to move theprop at least 1/2 inch away, from being perhaps only 4mm clear. This is a big improvement and this extra clearance is despite using a 7×5 pitch prop (as before I could only use a 7×3 pitched prop) so hopefully it will be a bit quicker and less noisy.

Work has not really finished on the Walrus yet, and I need a calm day to properly test it. I have a feeling I have not set the elevators at the rear properly and may have to cut them off and re-setthem.

Similarly the Ecranoplan needs a run after its re-engining.

I have just ordered some sheets of life ply to start a boat if I was in self isolation for a couple of weeks. To get up this morning to find I might be in the house for 4 months.

I might need more modelling supplies!

Tim. its hard to know what to do. Ultimately everyone cant self isolate forever.

Today. Saucer went well but misted up again despite vent hole. I think the issue is that the cold wind cools the perspex and the motor makes the interior warm…..it may be something I will just have to live with. It wont mist up when its a bit warmer, and I don't want to enlarge the 3.5mm vent.

Assorted boats, some affected by the stiff breeze, I could tell it was a bit cold by looking at Barbie..

Having heard the interview on the radio this am, it didn't sound as bad as the Sunday papers. More stay at home and try to reduce your people contact as long as you are not ill. Although it was only a sound bite. My wife is only 68 so she will be wouldn't be covered by this .

The press is simply making things worse. If there was no big reporting on panic buying. no one would go and panic buy.

How long should you self isolate for if you DO get the virus?? I have not seen a figure put down…is it weeks or months after you "get better", and what is "get better"?

Self isolate after you show some symptoms…but you might have had the virus for up to two weeks prior to that and infected loads more people. Should you contact them and get them to self isolate?

My various bands are continuing but it wont be long before the government bans gatherings over 3 people.

At the pond we are marking out pegs for boating so we don't get too close, and man-hugging has been banned….

Liz is over 70 (she wouldn't be pleased if I were to say by how much…) but I'm 68 so, in theory, I could go to the shops etc while she stays in her garden – which isn't very much different from what happens on most days. That said, I suspect that anyone who lives with an "elderly" person will be told to isolate themselves as well. Otherwise it's all rather pointless.

What interests me is how such a draconian measure would be enforced*. We are 20,000 police officers short of "normal" requirements and as for the Army… Perhaps our revered PM might encourage us to welch on our neighbours and ring "Fogeywatch" if we were to see them venture beyond the front gate. Reward points could be added to your regular supermarket loyalty card, maybe? Who knows – we might even live long enough to be able to redeem them!

It will indeed seem strange to be asked to prove my age at a supermarket checkout. Hey, ho – jolly good fun!

I can't see how they can forcibly incarcerate everone ovr 70 for four months successfully. (And not at the same time as reducing mental health services!)

As I understand it there are only two main ways you can get the virus. Firstly by touching a surface it is on and then bring your hands to your face and secondly, being sneezed or coughed on by an infected person. It doesn't float about in the air waiting to be breathed in.

So if I make myself a packed lunch, get into my car, drive into the country for a nice walk, keeping clear of the few people I might pass on the way then get back into my car and drive home just how am I likely to catch the bug?

OK, after a while the car may need refuelling but it's pretty easy to deal with any risks by wearing gloves, wiping down surfaces and hands with wet wipes or ethanol etc.

All of which is pretty much what we are doing now anyway excpet for food shopping..

I think Ashley's spot on with the media driving the subject to new heights, now Brexit didn't make much difference to life as we know it 😀

My office is shut this week because one of our guys felt unwell on Friday and was told to self isolate as a precaution, fortunately I can work from home with the laptop, happy days ??

The RCM&E forum has threads making fun of the situation, but I'm not that sure it won't worry most old folk to death without actually getting the virus?

                                            Do the maths.

65 million people in the uk, 1400 confirmed cases, 20?. Or so deaths.

Newspapers only print stuff to sell them and make profits: case in point….foxes biting kiddies. 1 ? 2 ? Examples per year….big fuss, exterminate them cry the parents.

Maulings, disfigurations, bites and savage attacks by Dogs…..hundreds if not thousands a year. Kill them all?? No, too many dog lovers buy newspapers.

unfortunately I think I will have to temporarily stop the dancing group I run at the day centre because it really is a worse case scenario..being close, touching and so on, and most of the class is 65+. For how long?

i think that boating with a group of boaters in the open air is fairly risk free.

ps. Hydro much improved with the new prop spacer. Visibly quicker and possibly a bit quieter. Barbie pedalo, er, yes.

What a difference it was yesterday with a bit of nice calm weather and warmth.

Sprayed Bluebird (blue funny enough) and it looks good. Will wait a few days before flattingoff a bit and applying finishing coat. Unfortunately with the undercuts-and hidden spaces around the sponsons it is tricky to get a shiny finish straight from the can unless you are quick and apply sufficient paint to flow properly without pooling.

i May have to ensure I just get a good shiny finish on the nose, sponson sides, hull sides and top, as these are bits that need to be shiny, and the other areas will just have to be smooth, if you see what I mean.

looks nice out so far for a trip to the pond a.m.

I went down yesterday with John to give the Galleon a run out and film the Barbie boat. Car park pretty full, loads of toddlers, nearly lost a few pirates!

If schools get closed, then Bushy will be full with mums and kids trying to run off their energy – but without touching anyone else of course.

It’s called ‘The school summer holiday syndrome.’
