Looks great Ashley, you need to sail it shortly before dusk for the best effect maybe? (or get up very early…)

Ray. Unfortunately I live at no 68!

All done now. side lights varnished, mainly to stop long term corrosion of the copper as the waterline is well below the rim, and secondly some white drought excluder strip has been stuck around the outer limits, sorry, edge as no doubt I will be bumping into things!

Test/snaps tomorrow on ‘t pond, aye.

            Yes, put up the pics.

I hope the cold water doesn't make it warp otherwise it might unexpectedly change dimensions….

Thanks chaps. Despite a crowded car park, not that many onlookers.

Looked a bit better in the flesh as the lights don’t show on the snaps. A bit of condensation in the dome, needs a small hole on top to ventilate.

I though about all sorts of stuff’ I could with it, but sometimes, less is more, so apart from the flashing lights, that’s that!

I am toying with the idea of a Becker rudder though, as although the turning circle is really small, it does not spin on the spot. A Becker might just make the difference if I can locate the post..by Bob?

As an aside, decided to take my film cameras stuff to a charity shop. The OM2 wasn’t cheap, neither was all the lenses, but who wants them now?

                                    Hi All,

In my attempt at being retro, I still use an Olympus om101 35mm camera, you can't beat the anticipation of what you may have photographed, and the massive disappoint of what you actual took 😀

The disadvantage of digital is how often do you bother  having propped prints made.

Quite – then again, how many shelves and lofts are cluttered with photo albums that no-one looks at except after a family funeral? Justr trying to be cheerful…..

I think Dave is right, we have drawers full of photos which never get looked at and when I do I'm hard pressed to work out which year they were taken. We also have albums of mor significant occasions which are family heirlooms.

However, since around 2003 we hve gone digital and the images are all readily accessible on my PC (with multiple backups of course). Obviously I take more shots than are needed when we go away, then when we come back I delete duplicate and irrelevant ones and , if necessary, clean up the others in photoshop. It does make them readily accessible and I have also created physical albums of some of our more notable holidays using one of the many online providers.

I have also had individual images printed out and framed to adorn our walls.

If you have a smart TV it is easy to view a slideshow of your holidays in full HD at whatever screensize you have. Which might be useful this year if your long anticipated break fall foul of th Coronavirus.

I have had a quick look in eBay. Most listing say tested ok, and although mine worked fine until retirement (and I took the battery out) I can’t guarantee this. The lenses are not Olympus ones, and the whole lot weighs a ton. Wrapping them for safe passage would add to the size box needed, and postage would be stiff.

Collection limits the radius of buyers likely to respond. The camera is in good nick, but not perfect…it all adds up.

Have a stinky cold now (NOT the flu) so feeling extra miserable.

At least I have made, fixed and painted a new motor cover for the Ecranolan so that’s all ready to go.

We have not only my wife's 35mm set up with extra lenses but a Fuji Bridge camera we don't use, having replaced it with smaller Panasonic lumix. We tried to sell the 35mm on EBay some years ago but I seem to remember there was lots of the same camera for sale and none selling.

I still have my Dads old camera with the prism view finder and bellows when you open it up.

Now we both have Smart phones so even on holiday my wife uses her phone to take pictures.

We have an Olympus micro 4/3 system, which is a kind of bridge format with a bigger CCD than phones and smaller cameras. Got a couple of lenses for it and it DOES take a good picture there is no doubt, but for most situations a phone is good enough. Even my cheaper-then-apple Motorola phone will record video in 4K and take a decent picture in low light too.

Back on topic, its interesting that in the above photo where the RN are being chased by the invaders, you can see how the turrets are clearly too high above the deck. Gotta sort that, thanks Ashley for that phot! And I still need to do the portholes, and the rigging, and railings, and a few people on watch. And radar masts. etc forever!
