      Hi Ashley,

As you know I have a foot in the RC flying camp & building a Jet Provost with a 50mm fan which is secured with my new toy a hot glue glue, seems to stick to the plastic very well 😀

      Regards Ray

You’re right Ray, and all the small motors on my non flying boats are secured with nothing but!

Probably worth a go. I might drill a small hole either side for a safety brass wire…pin or staple as additional mechanical security.

Good suggestion! Has the added benefit of speed of mounting.

I have ordered the Qf. 2822 motor, 3500kv.

After some head scratching I have made two supporting blocks joined by a bit of balsa. A brainwave really as the hull tapers at this point and I wasn’t having much luck in positioning the two sides evenly and square on.

This means I can secure the fan shroud to the blocks and glue the set in whilst eyeing it all up for position. The side cheeks are about 4mm in thickness and will allow me to notch the shroud shelves (for want of a better word) and drill the cheeks for a couple of servo screws, the ones with a sort of built in washer. The plan will be to glue in the mount, with shroud held by screws, and when dry undo screws, apply hot glue and put screws back!

It does mean the motor is in one position but there is no way of telling exactly where best to position it until I plonk it in the water.

Tomorrow.. Walrus and summat else, perhaps ooo…I dunno…

Cor. Spent a bit of time fiddling with the tail elevators on the Walrus and lowering the wing floats at and wow…does it go! Does it just skim the water! Does it veer left and right whilst being barely in contact with the water!

Most satisfactory. Elevators eventually set upwards to lift the tail, by quite a bit. When I set the elevators down, the nose dived (literally) when power was applied.  Tried it with a 2s and there was just not quite enough oomph for liftoff, 2 or 4 blades, however the 3s was good on 2 blades or 4. I can now glue the tail together and paint, ditto for the wing floats. Hobbies Hydro going well, possibly a bit better on the Master 3 blade 7×3 prop, and in conjunction with the 4 blade prop on the Walrus it was noticeable how much quieter either craft was with the multi blade props. Walrus seems to be particularly sweet with composite blade.

Trevors edf Dragonfly also going well, unfortunately the lid was not as watertight as it could be so it only got in a shortish run, but light has been seen at the end of the tunnel. To complete the non-water prop selection Peters edf speedboat was out for a buzz.

Motor mount in on Bluebird after a lot of faffing about and Lower than anticipated but more in accordance with my sketch rather than what I was contemplating doing. Only need the motor to turn up and I can chuck it in the oggy.

                Well, it LOOKs fast, Richard!

Almost finished painting Walrus. Tail elevators do seem to be set upwards quite a bit, but that’s what testing showed. Correction to previous post…tail set for decreased lift, not extra lift. It seems the motor thrust is pushing the nose down, but then once it gains speed the nose rises thus giving the wings lift, Pushing the nose up even more and hence the need to keep the tail down to keep the lift in check. A bit, anyway.

Waiting Bluebird motor and esc, but have found my union flag stickers (for later on).

Walrus painted and foam insert made to hold the battery (to one side to help counter torque roll)..

Box for Bluebird made, with polystyrene inserts to hold it in place. It is unusually low for one of my storage boxes, only 6 inches high, because the top with fin will be held at the side of the boat and will not be fixed in the normal position.

Tomorrow Walrus, Sunderland and a lander of course, possibly something else?

                  Still waiting edf motor.

Very windy today which scuppered Trevor's re test of the jet-dragonfly, but did not stop them mercilessly cajoling and bullying me into plopping the Walrus in the water. It didn't turn over, but that was simply luck…

Sir Colin was down with two Fairey`s (they were different colours to aid identification) surpriseand I thrashed one of them around while Colin took photos. This was only after we had changed the puny motor/battery originally fitted for a 9000Kv 2hp brushed motor and 20s battery to give it some oomph (just kidding, it went very well and was very smooth).

Other than that the Sunderland was fun in the wind. The port outer engine was playing up; this had been ok last time and it was the starboard inner engine that was slow?? Toyboata also finding it easy and was controlled by two Chinese lads for a bit, one of which looked like Kim un jung (or whatever his name is). They were very polite and enjoyed their go.

Peters big Fireboat showed us the way to speed, gravitas and how to handle a bit of wind

At least it was not too cold.

                          Nice snaps Colin.

Shame the wind was up. Colin put his QM2 in the water but it sort of sailed sideways….

Been busy attaching support hoops on the Bluebird, these will hold the top in place. Steaming didn’t work so I made an MDT template and glued two strips of 0.8mm ply together and these held shape really well. Cockpit transparency also in place.

Main body top next, 0.8mm ply bent using steam/hot water and strips of 0.8 ply stuck on. Not sure yet how best to hold this in place. It should be very springy and may only need a couple of pins or something to stop it falling off.

                          Still waiting a motor.

I am new to model boats having spent 50years building flying model aircraft, and due to illness last year I had to give up flying as I had to surrender my driving licence,as I have a condition that cannot be operated on due to my heart problem and age,i will be able to get my daughter to bring me to Bushy Park sometimes.

I would like to know if I can just turn up or do I need to join a club and what days.

I am at the moment building a MTB Vosper with twin electric motors and a 1/24th scale

Hi Jeff and welcome to the forum.

It is not a club at Bushy park, anyone can turn up and join the fun.

We boat Sunday mornings 9-ish until 12-ish or later if nice, as a rule, but the pond is open every day for model boating.

Car park is free and the pond/jetty is 50 yards from the car park. Loo 5 mins walk away and a drinks/cakes/hot-dog stand is close by.

Be nice to see you there. I usually have a spare craft for people to have a go on even if you don't bring your own, or your daughter might like to try her hand!

Sunday looks like a no go this weekend, certainly nothing with wings!

Popped down today to get my fix and to test Woody as I’ve had to rebuild the gearbox again! Seem to spend most of my time repairing my fleet at the moment.

Made a start on the Barbie pedalo, Barbie’s acquired just the boat to build, watch this space.

Sunday will be a no go, as all the Royal parks will be closed due to the expected high winds. Don’t want to be knocked out by flying deer eh!

However after slapping on the p38 and having a sand down, all of a sudden it looks good! Wowser Standing in the kitchen on the mini I-pad now, watching the Ezekote dry on the top fin. As you do.

                                                      Yeah, only joking (unfortunately).

will be going for toy story aliens in a flying saucer, with warp drive!

Will be going to topps tiles today to suss out building material, and ordering pump propulser from e-bay.

Trevor has suggested a novel feature which I will explore but I can see diffs ahead, still, once I have some parts it may become clear.

For storage it can hang from the ceiling in proper ufo fashion.
