        Hi Ashley

Harry, you were the inspiration for our motto!

As some edf’s have their output given in thrust, in addition to simply how many watts they consume a reasonable goal would be to attain a 1:1 thrust ratio. However..what sort of thrust would you get from a similar wattage using a prop? How much thrust do I actually need for a 600g boat to get on the plane? Plus there is the (presumed) matter that I would need extra oomph to lift the boat off the water over and above simply making it a bit fast. Is 1:1 needed ?

Also, your max speed depends on the speed of the water thrust. A big prop producing say 400g of thrust would not drive a boat as fast as a smaller thrust high revving prop?

Hull, sponsons and a couple of bits of balsa representing the top comes to about 220g so far.

Looks like Sunday may be nice so a chance to finalise Walrus elevators and wing floats hopefully!

            Hi Ashley

I Hope to inspire you all !!!

The Hobbyking site with they motors gives a thrust for motors/battery/ prop.

This may give you some idea into your requirements.

The main weight will be the battery.

On setting up the boat only change one thing at a time and test.

            Small changes make a difference.

Dragonfly has dried out well and working again, I have also made a new hatch cover.

Hopefully someone will have a camera tomorrow.

I have it from a reliable authority that there may be Faireys at Bushy tomorrow. I hope their wings don't get frost-bitten.

Ah, we know how to deal with Faireys at Bushy! (I have a blanket in the car).

it is just possible I might actually drive a Fairey!! Ooh…I wonder how fast it will go…is there an 11 on the throttle?

Cameras will be in abundance. I am sure it will be nice tomorrow, nippy but sunny.

Disappointment all round today as there was 1/4 inch of ice on the pond. An amount of room was created by various means for near-jetty action, during which Trevor lost his prop. How do these things happen eh, as there was insufficient clearance between shaft and rudder to fit a new one?

Luckily I put the medium lander in the boot and was able to play although the ice was too thick to break. Oddly enough it was quite warm in the sun. Missed a golden opportunity to take the ZiS out for pictures in the pure white frost early on, and ice breaking duties after.

Sadly did not get the chance thrash any Faireys today, but one did make an outing on the council provided work bench for us to oo and arr at.

And then it took 35 mins to exit the park due to the “sunny morning” brigade.

As Ashley says, no Faireys today unfortunately but here are a few pics for you to enjoy. Most exciting event was when a barchelor swan evidently made a play for another one's wife. The angry couple pursued him relentlessly until he made an impressive leap into the air and flew away without the usual takeoff run . Mr Swan made a formidable icebreaker, barrelling across the pond at an amazing rate of knots with his missus thundering along behind leaving a trail of broken ice floes in their wake.

I did get the chance to view two of Ashley's new projects and hope to see them in action soon.

Nice photos Colin. Hopefully next time you are down you will see both projects on the water. Good snap of Richard in the rescue boat!

Smoke from the various incense and 3-in-1 burners looking effective in the cold air.

Trevor demonstrated the thrust from his edf, and it was quite something. Hopefully I will have a similar thrust to power the K7 to a new Bushy park world speed record.

Peter handed me a newspaper cutting, and apparently the rebuilt K7 in in a garage in Wigan or somewhere (ok, Tyneside, but it’s close..) due to legal wrangling.

Just you wait until Paul T sees this!

Tyneside is not 'close to Wigan' – unless your geography stops at the Thames, that is. They are on opposite coasts and 157 miles apart.

When I worked in Bristol I walked out with a young lady who genuinely believed that anywhere north of Gloucester is in Yorkshire. Shame – she was gorgeous!

Satan’s sausage stabber is coming along slowly as it’s a side project, but will be pondside fairly soon. I’m afraid it’s nothing fancy, a fast buggy motor and a 7.2 nicad with bits salvaged from the bits box. We shall see how it performs at a later date.

After today's news that seems increasingly unlikely – not that it was ever a cast-iron certainty. I still have money riding on Heathrow Terminal 3 going ahead, though.

We can hope they will cancel it.

It calls for a 16 metre high viaduct through the centre of Long Eaton. Just a few hundred yards from where I live.

All to save 10 mins (I think) on the journey time from London. You can easily lose that again on the roads around Nottingham.

Have finally glued sponsons on Bluebird. Bit tricky and involved heavy weights, custom cut MDf spacers and a lot of Umming and arring Hopefully everything is in line although i is difficult to tell. Holding it in my hand once the epoxy had gone off and it looks ok…

Weight…….hull, bit of balsa to simulate the missing top, rudder, servo, esc and recvr…just under 200gm!

Still no word from inscrutable Chinese vendor regarding wrong trousers EDF.

Progress on the Bluebird propulsion. The inscrutable vendor has refunded my fan purchase.

This means I have two fan/fan casings, 12 bladed, free of charge, not quite of course as I have to buy a motor for one of them, and that will cost as much as the fan/motor wot I oredered.

The original had 5 blades and a 4500Kv motor, this will have 12 blades and a 3500Kv motor. What does this mean, practically speaking you ask ??? No idea! It does mean the boat will sound slightly less frenetic.

Next issue is that the mounting projections are only 3mm wide, not really enough to drill and get a screw through. I might put a notch in the side and use screws, with small washers? I don't suppose the plastic will glue very well. On the upside I have loads of room to fiddle.
