I watched this last night and was disappointed, as the program panned out into a cosy light history lesson and as usual rather light on the build bit.
I particularly dislike the team “yeah lets get it on” “lets do this” thing, more suited to an American show.
I was impressed by the large lump of metal they bent, and not so impressed with the rib…but at the end of the day a load more large bent bits appeared…from where?? (brief mention) and there looked to be some welding of the big bits as well..viz.. the large piece they bent was only part of the whole?
I thought that the bow section appeared to be dwarfed by the red gantry support and a bit more plating would have looked more impressive. Liked the “rivet counter” and liked the marks left by him on the finished bit. Hope they are going to plaque it up so that bods can admire the various techniques and weights etc etc. 3 million rivets…oo er!
Bob, know what you mean, but I think that rivets in strategic areas and possibly below the waterline may have been countersunk to reduce drag. Certainly on mine, they are ALL countersunk flush…
No death threats plse, my personal opinion only. No i couldnt have done it better etc
Next weeks program about the anchor looks as if it may be more interesting, especially if they cast it in one bit !!!
