      Just about to crack the lid on this beast any suggestions for motor size it's a revel kit in 1: 350 scale giving it a length of just over 70cm

          Andy. A pair of 280`s should do, ordinary MFA types and on 4.8V or so.., it will be very light and the props tiny. This would be my choice. Below, New Jersey (sort of) plastic toy conversion, one speed 2800…25mm prop 7.2V goes like the clappers. 700mm long, bit wider and chunkier that yours will be.

          Must be someone who has motorised your kit can supply better suggestion.

            A lot of people who convert these kits just motorise the central shaft and leave the other two non working. As Ashley says, a 280 type motor is probably quite adequate for this easily driven hull.

            Although not specifically listed in their catalogue, I believe that SHG Model supplies will supply a suitable set of running gear including motor(s) for your model. Tell them which kit you have and how many shafts you want to motorise and I'm sure they will advise you

              Ashley / colin . i knew that 'squirrelling away ' all my old model boat mags would come in handy as i've just discovered an article from August / September 1988 a marine modelling magazine at the enormous cost of £1.25 and it has an article about power the tamiya Tirpitz .although in black and while it makes a good read and useful photos so its a good reference for me .Good thing i tend to hunt around 2nd hand bookshops etc so dont just walk by have a look you never know what you will find .

                Andy. How many colour pictures have you ever seen of the Tirpitz??? go on, paint it in simply black white and grey. Would look exactly like all the pictures then!!
