As of late tomorrow, Monday 19th September 2011, I will not be online much for the next fortnight or so as I will be away.

 

In the meantime Paul Freshney will keep a general watching brief on the website and Forum.

 

I will log in from time to time pending my return depending on the availability of Internet facilities.

This is just a minor diversion entailing a voyage to New York on Queen Mary 2 followed by a few days in NY and then a driving tour around New England.

 

The idea is to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary.

 

Makes a change from the Isle of Wight Ferry.

So it`s Bish`s Ruby Anniversary hey?…. And he`s going Stateside on the QE 2, hey?

Driving round in a big flashy car, for two weeks hey?

Well!….It`s our Golden Anniversary this Friday!

Yep!….50 years before the mast!…….So we`re doing something special too!

 

What`s that?…… I hear you ask?

 

What could be nicer than a long weekend at Barmouth in our Campervan?

 

Rough stormy seas, full of icebergs….and aeroplanes?…..No chance!……Done that….Geeez!….Have I had some turbulence and knee tremblers!

Driving round those crazy eight lane freeways, gangsters round every corner?

Wouldn`t swap with Bish for all the Tea in China!

 

So it`s lovely old sleepy Barmouth for us!

 

Only joking, chaps…..But we are off to Barmouth for our 50 th for a quiet break

Weather permitting of course!

Not quite, Peter, but I am very reliably informed that there was a P40 mixer inside each of the several versions of R2D2 used by the makers of the 4th-6th Star Wars movies.

Talk about rubbing shoulders with the stars, eh?

Stephen Payne did a superb job. We got off in NY yesterday in thick fog. Ship reversed into the berth in pretty much nil visibility – definitely good mixers (and radar)

I’m suitably impressed, Dave.

 

Colin, our arrival in New York aboard QE2 in 2008 was also in fog. We could barely see the Verrazano Narrows bridge as we went under it , but it cleared enough so we could see the Statue of Liberty as we passed by.

 

What did you think of QM2?

QM2 is stunning, she really does evoke the atmosphere of the old ocean liners. I will put up a full report when I get back. At the moment I’m using my phone on the free wifi in Times Square and the connection is a bit fragile!

Yes, we had a great time. I took 288 photos on the Queen Mary 2 alone. I will get some of the best ones sorted out and put up an album, hopefully within the next few days. We landed at 6.15 this morning so I’m still a bit jet lagged…..
